So I've been meaning to get a PSP for a while so i could play crisis core. Things have been tight n all, what with this credit crunch, yada yada, so i eventually managed to discipline myself to save up for one.

Ordered it online, (with crisis core, which arrived earlier) it arrived today when I got home from work, start playing crisis core, and then the save option comes up. INSERT MEMORY STICK.

I am such a dumbass :gonk:I must have thought it'd come with one. So I'll have to wait til tomo and I'll buy one at lunch. Idiot.

Anyone else make this mistake?

That's unlucky :wacky:
Although, unless you've had experience with a PSP before it's not surprising since nearly every console now, if not all of them, are inbuilt with an HDD for save data, I don't know what the DS uses though :ness:

Pretty sure the DS has an internal thing.
Argh, that would suck. You'd imagine they'd include a memory stick T_T I think they include memory cards for PS2.

I KNOW! <grumble grumble> I checked the box after I posted that just to check. they didn't include one and it's not listed on the box. <sigh>

Yeah the DS has its own hard drive thing, as it always has. But you only get 3 save points per game on a nintendo. ever since mario. which is a little odd.

But now I'm stressing over what size of memory stick to buy! 2GB, 4? 8!?!

They didn't, or at least didn't when they first came out, a memory stick was about $100.
I've got a 2 gig memory stick and it's got plenty of space left still. Unless you're going to have a lot of different games for each game, you should be fine.

I made the same mistake over Christmas. Luckily, my local store was open on Boxing Day and we got one of them and Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection for £15. So it was a mistake not to get one (I didn't even know I needed one), but I got a bargain in the end. ^_^

The DS will likely have a small amount of internal memory, but that isn't used for storing save data. The save data's stored on the game card itself. All Nintendo consoles (with the exception of the Gamecube and the Wii) have been like that.

As for the issue of no memory stick: Sony are grippy bastards, but you can pick one up quite cheap from play.com or 7dayshop.com. :jtc:

I ended up getting a 4GB as that's the smallest they had. Now I'm excited to get home from work now. part deux.

I wondered why there was only ever 3 save slots on a nintendo! And they're all cartridges, apart from the Wii which will no doubt have internal memory.

/slightly off topic

I think the Wii has around 512MB of flash memory, though you can use SD(HC) cards with it too, which would mean (up to) an additional 32GB. Though you could obviously have more than one SD card, just not in the slot at the same time (duh).

Aw, dude, that sucks xD

I bought a memory card separately on the same day I bought a PSP and Crisis Core (Boxing Day, so uber sales on that day). I had to wait in line for over 2 hours, but I got my precious 4 GB memory card for a reasonable price ^_^

And the upcoming PSP Go! has 16 GBs of internal memory space...just no place for UMDs -__-

On the topic of Nintendo, is it true that the DSi has some kind of internal memory for stuff like music and videos too?

Just had a read of the Wikipedia article on the DSi. Apparently it has 256MB of internal flash memory and an SD card. I'm guessing the flash memory is essentially just so people can take photos out of the box, as it were. There are probably a gazillions threads on it already but sacrificing backwards compatibility is not good, I know I won't be getting one. :jtc:

It's called a GBA Micro. <3 My DSi and GBAMicro. Best combo ever. They're both so small and sleek.

And you're correct about the internal memory. Its mostly for photos and downloading DSiWare games. For music you need an SD/SDHC card.

I still have a GBA but I'm not going to pay more cash for something that has less functionality (I'm not particularly worried about the camera and music playing abilities. I have an iPod and I have several cameras). My DS is for games, some of them happen to be GBA games; it's all about principles etc etc.

I bought it for two reasons. DSiWare, and the fact nintendo said there will be DSi Exclusive and DSi Enhanced games. I figure that there will probably be some games there I want, and so I'm future proofing myself. Hell DSiWare has already been a good enough reason to upgrade, and will only get better when we finally get Dragon Quest Wars and Oregon Trail.

I'll take better screens, better buttons, a processor thats twice as fast, 4x the amount of RAM, and exclusive games over the ability to play something from a system I already own 2 of.

And I have a GBA for GBA games, to each his own.
