Report – Vita battery life to be comparable to PSP

PlayStation Vita’s battery is set to be the same or near the same as PSP’s except for when you play graphical powerhouses like Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Sony has told Engadget. The company wouldn’t be drawn on specifics on exactly how long it’ll last. And that it’s.

Update#2

If you’ve been keeping up with PS Vita news, you have probably already heard that the device will no longer be restricted by regions. Although this is a big bonus, some slightly disappointing information has been released. Apparently, the PS Vita will not include support for any type of video out capability.

<center>

</center>

Unfortunately, this is not a rumor. Sony officially confirmed the information on their FAQ for PSVita, which can be checked out at their blog. Sony made a very clear response regarding the video-out features for the device.

When Sony was asked if they had plans to include a video-out cable like HDMI, this was their response :

“No, PS Vita does not have a video output feature”.

This blunt statement will disappoint many gamers who are hoping to hook their PS Vita up to a large screen. This feature would have definitely be nice to have, but perhaps Sony is worried that the handheld may start replacing the PS3 if they include video capability.

For those who did not know, both the PSP Slim and PSP Go were released with video-out capability. However, the PS Vita has a lot more power compared to those devices, so gamers may feel buying the PS3 would not be necessary if they could already get high quality games on a large screen from the PS Vita.

Rumor: PS Vita's Party voice chat feature coming to PS3?

The PlayStation Vita will feature at launch a cross-game voice chat via its Party system. You can think of Party as a built-in mini-social network that allows you to create and host voice chat rooms, invite friends, and allow everyone in your party to see what you are playing and hop into your online game.

We had a demo on the last day of E3 immediately following a hands-on WipEout 2048 experience. Ramana Prakash, manager of Sony Computer Entertainment America’s online technology group, explained that Party allows you to chat with anyone in your group no matter what game you are playing. This has long been a demand of PlayStation 3 gamers, and after seeing how remarkably well it works on Vita, it seems logical the feature will makes its way to Sony’s console.

When asked when we’ll see Party on the PS3, Prakash quickly made it clear that “we are only announcing it for the Vita.” However, quickly after that comment, another rep from Sony, who asked to be anonymous, hinted that we’ll likely see this feature make its way to the PS3.

Beyond the anonymous comment, it would make a lot of sense that Party will eventually come to the PS3 because of Vita’s ability to seamlessly network with the PS3. For instance, our demo of WipEout 2048 put three of us together competing through the PlayStation Network. Two of us played on Vitas and one played on the PS3. This ability is unique, and best of all, it works like a charm. We experienced no lag and we can’t wait to see what other creative things Sony will do with this ability.

The actual Party system is remarkable in person. It’s fast, the voice chat is smooth, and the ability to join a friend in game happens in seconds. Prakash showed how someone invited him to a room to chat, then his friend started to play WipEout 2048, which he could see through a little logo below that friend’s name. At the touch of the screen on the Vita he joined his friend and was ready to compete.

Expect to hear more about Vita’s Party system and with any luck, PS3 fans will get their own party chat feature—and maybe it will connect with the Vita service as well.

Gamestop prices PS Vita games at $39.99

vita.png.pagespeed.ce.6XdPMrdtQd.png

One thing you can’t deny is that Sony has hit a pretty good price point for their upcoming PlayStation Vita. Since the official reveal and pricing the other day, gamers have wondered about the price of its games.

If we are to believe the pricing listed by GameStop on their official site, Vita games will be equally affordably priced. $39.99 for PS3 quality games is definitely a pricing sweet spot. Don’t hold your breath yet, I’d wait for an official announcement.

Update#7

After PlayStation's Recent Conference at E3, Sony announced that AT&T will be the exclusive carrier for the PS Vita. However, there is a different way to play on the go, with ANY CARRIER, even in 4g.

There is no way around it, AT&T's internet is horrible ( Its always 2 bars in Los Angeles). However, this is NOT your only option to play on the go. Your alternative option for a better internet connection as well as a more reliable carrier, is to Purchase a Portable Wifi aka "Mi-Fi". When you purchase a Mifi, its like carrying your own portable internet wifi spot. These mifi's range from 20 dollars to 60 dollars a month. All carrier companies have their own mifi that you can purchase and pay a monthly service for. A great portable Wifi company, CLEAR, is a 4G portable wifi spot. They offer an excellent 4G service for 40 bucks a month that can be run on 8 devices at once! (PlayStation 3, Sony laptop, Sony Android Xperia Play, Sony Android Tablet, etc).

<table class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;" align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tbody> <tr><td style="text-align: center;"></td></tr> <tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Portable, Small, and 4G Connection.</td></tr> </tbody></table>
These portable connections can be password secured as and are easy to set up because they connect via wifi to the PS Vita. In fact, this portable wifi online can be played with the original PSP. Best part is you can save yourself the 50 dollars by purchasing the Wifi version of the PS Vita, and use the 50 dollars for the purchase of the equipment of the mifi (if your not leasing the equipment from your carrier). These portable powerhouses can be carried comfortably in your pocket as well. If you already have a cell phone, your carrier might offer a cheaper deal to simply add your mifi to your plan.

So are you guys sticking to AT&T, following the Mifi route, or not playing online at all with your PS Vita?

Sony has showed off numerous of their PlayStation Vita at the E3 Expo 2011. Despite the tremendous hype however, they have kept the ‘under-the-hood’ specs a closely guarded secret. Although everyone knows what the device looks like, few have seen the plastic case opened up.

During the last few weeks of E3, GAME Watch, a Japanese website, was able to take a picture of the PS Vita with its cover removed. This unveiled the memory card port location along with a rather mysterious connection.

According to GAME Watch the left “mysterious” connection is an expansion port. However, it does look quite similar to a HDMI cord. Although Sony has not announced any video capabilities for the PS Vita, we are certainly hoping that the cable will turn out to be a video cable, similar to the one that is located on the PSP.

Update#1

As mentioned before, Sony have learned many lessons from the PSP, and it's co-existence with the PS3. Apart from the pricing issue, which they have clearly already addressed, Sony has recently revealed another interesting kink in their strategy that they are planning on ironing out.

<center>
sony-ps-vita-console.jpg
</center>

The head of Sony WorldWide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida, shared the following things with video game news site CVG :

"We are doing about the same number of titles [on Vita as on PS3] so that means a lot. One of the things we didn't do to well to support PSP was that right after PSP came out we moved on to working on the PS3 launch titles.

So we shifted too much resource out of PSP so after a couple of years the PSP support when quickly down. Going forward we do not want to make the same mistake so we always look at the balance that we are doing in support of both PS3 and NGP."

This is certainly very exciting news for all future PS Vita owners. Having as many titles for the PS3 as for the Vita will mean that many of them are going to be simultaneous releases that can be played on both. The ability to play a game on your home console and then carry on playing it on the go will severely impact the gaming industry, and possibly bring many new customers to Sony.

Vita trailer shows off Near, Party, Alerts, more

Sony has released a new trailer for the PlayStation Vita, outlining the myriad ways it will make your gaming life more social. Bless.

vita2.jpg

The most interesting bit is probably Near, Sony’s local content service. This hasn’t been fully detailed yet, but the video shows two Vita’s connecting, having found each other using the geographic service, and swapping content – a “treasure” is left on one.

It looks like Near may have elements in common with the 3DS’s Street Pass, in which case, Sony should immediately commence marketing the shit out of it.

You’ll also get a brief look at LiveArea (news blades for individual games), Alerts (status updates and achievements), Party (chat and group forming), CrossPlay (Vita and PS3 cross-platform multiplayer), and AR games.

Sony PlayStation Vita Delayed; to Roll Out Only in Jan 2012

Bad news for gamers…Good news for Nintendo; the all new PlayStation Vita’s release has, allegedly, been postponed to 2012. The console was previously rumored to reach the masses late this year, somewhere around Christmas.

Sony’s next-generation portable gaming console will feature improved graphics and controls and a robust online connectivity. Sony announced that 3G service will be provided by AT&T in the United States.

Under the hood, the Vita will be powered by an ARM Cortex-A9 CPU and a PowerVR SGX543MP4+ GPU, both sitting on the bleeding edge for the moment. It will also be the first gaming handheld to feature optional cellular 3G connectivity.

The new handheld will come in an ultra-thin, pocket-ready form, with two analog sticks, a D pad, two shoulder buttons, action buttons (triangle, circle, cross, and square) and the usual array of system-related buttons (power, volume, start, select, and PS button).

Motion controls have also been added to the Vita, in the form of six-axis motion-sensing system (three-axis gyroscope, three-axis accelerometer) and a three-axis electronic compass. It will also feature a multitouch-capacitive touch screen and a multitouch rear touchpad, which will put all your fingers to good use!

We will see a fourfold increase in resolution and almost twice as many pixels per inch (220 PPI versus 128 PPI). The Vita will have a capacitive multitouch 5-inch (16:9) OLED screen that runs at a resolution of 960×544. The front and rear cameras on the gadget will run at a maximum resolution of 640×480 and can record at 120fps at 320×240 and 60fps at 640×480. WOW! Now that can transform your physical world into your PSP world. The Vita also allows the players to play a game on Vita and pick up right where they left off on the PlayStation 3. The PlayStation Network’s cloud save abilities help make this feature a reality.

Though Sony made no comments on the Vita’s battery life, we think you will be able to have a comfortable gaming experience.

So don’t waste time…stock up on your favorite Vita games from your nearest PlayStation store and get ready to enjoy the New Year.

Vita facial recognition tech demoed

Sony showed off PlayStation Vita’s facial recognition tech to developers last week, and now you can see it, too.

At the Game Tools & Middleware Forum 2011 in Tokyo, Sony demonstrated a system a video chat system that looks somewhat similar to Avatar Kinect. But you can stand up. Even walk around! Burrrrn.

Thanks, CVG.

PlayStation Vita, shown with one of its top games from E3, Uncharted. Further details on the game's software lineup should be coming at TGS and GamesCom.

Sony's plans to launch PlayStation Vita this year apparently concern just Japan. In a group interview session (via Bloomberg Japan), Sony Vice President Kaz Hirai said, "Under our current plan, we will release [PlayStation Vita] early next year in the European and North American markets." Japan will get the system this year.

Specifics on the Vita's software and applications will be announced at German's GamesCom in August and the Tokyo Game Show in September.

The system's pricing has already been announced for Japan as ¥24,980 for the Wi-Fi only model and ¥29,980 for the 3G model. During the interview session, Hirai said that there was no need to reduce the system's price in response to Nintendo's recent 3DS price drop announcement.

Vita won’t support Game Archives at Japanese launch

According to Andriasang‘s translation of a new Sony Vita FAQ, the company has confirmed the new portable won’t support Game Archives at Japanese launch. Game Archives is the Japanese term for PSOne and Turbo GrafX PlayStation Network releases. It’s not clear whether this will apply to the Western launch, and Sony promises an update about “future support”.
