I just found out about this, literally, like 5 mins ago.

We all have that time when our PS3s slow down when you sync trophies, and/or become laggy when you watch videos.

--- DOING A DATABASE REBUILD will enhance your system. It's like de-fragmenting your PS3, but with everything still there.

» NOTE: It will NOT delete any GAMES, SAVES, or any MEDIA file. It will only delete like old messages.

[I've tested this myself. It actually does work, my PS3 syncs trophies 50% faster than it usually does now]

----

1. Turn off your PS3 so you see that glowing red light we are all familiar with.
2. Turn on your PS3 and HOLD the power button. Keep holding until it turns off.
3. Now turn it on again but this time it will be a little different. Press and hold the power button and you will hear. 1 Beep …. 1 Beep ….. then 2 quick Beeps at this point release the power button. If you release it to late it will just turn off again. Return to step 2 if this happens.
4. You will be greeted with a screen asking you to connect a controller with a USB cable.

----

» It works with both Fat and Slim Models.

» Database Rebuild time may vary from user's PS3s, mine took only 5 mins.

» Here's a video of a kid explaining it, if you can't follow step by step.

This is called a hard reset. In short, in resets all the custom "tweaks" you have made and resets everything back to factory settings that is not directly related to your game saves.

It's the solution for many things like, for example, if you play using an HDMI cord and then (god forbid) something happens to your HD TV forcing you to use an SD TV. How would you change your settings to SD without being able to access the screen which will only be displayed using the HDMI cord? A hard reset.

I'm not entirely sure about it speeding anything up to this. Can we get a more technical person here to explain how that would happen? :hmmm:
