Okay, so me and Jeff are (re-)playing Final Fantasy VIII. Now, I am messing with the card game, he isn't, reason being; What's the point of it, and what does it do?

That triggered this question. Does the card game have any other side extras, besides just collecting cards? Do you get anything special for it? Or is it just completing your collection of cards? And if so, how do you know, if you have all the cards?

Thanks!

Basically, refining cards is a great way to get magic and items. By playing the card game, you can get 5/6 ultimate weapons on disk 1, if I'm remembering correctly.

Also, you can tell if your card collection is full by using the card tab on the main menu, there are ten pages with ten cards each, I think. Once you have a card, it'll be shown in that menu, I think.

you can use card mod to get the lion heart and a few other final weapons on disc one (either the sacred or minotaur card refines into adamantine and 20 elnoyle cards into energy crystal which gives you pulse ammo ) aswell as other items but thats about it really :hmmm: sooo yeahh its really just about getting every card in the game and you know when you have got them all as a little star on the menu screen appears.

EDIT: got beat to it :monster:

Alright, thanks guys!

Are the boss cards, the ones shown in blue when you get to pick which card you want? :hmmm: Or are those just special cards or something?

blue cards are cards you haven't collected yet and yellow ones are cards you had but lost, just lets you know wht you needm, had or lost/refined using card mod. the Card Game also has some really nasty rules suh as random :rage: be careful for that one its a S.O.B, you can abolish rules but ive been trying to abolish one regions rule for a month now, it does get rather tiresome.

Okay, some other quick questions that came to mind;

* Can you get the weapons without the cards?
* Where do you get the weapons if you do have / don't have the cards?
* What cards would I need to refine the weapons?

The Triple Triad is my favorite side quest of any FF game I've played. It's uses are like others have said, refining magic and items to use for ultimate weapons/junctions. You can get a lot of higher magic faster than drawing/draw points as well.

I also loving playing it because of the fact that it is a side quest, and defeating the Triad club members has a certain achievement feeling to me. :D

You can, but not until disk 3/4.

You get the weapons by getting all the necessary materials, some of them are harder to find / obtain if you don't play cards.

And here's a FAQ on getting everyone's weapons, should tell you which items you need, what monsters you need to beat to get them / what cards you can refine them from ^^

Okay, and then for the noob question of the day.

How, and where do I refine the cards? xD

I'm sorry for the question bombs, I just never bothered with the card game before. -.-

Your GF's have abilities to learn to mod the cards into magic/items. That leads to the Refine option in the main menu, pressing Triangle to bring it up.

yes you can get the weapons with out the cards by fighting certain monsters and gaining there items that they drop

weapon shops loacated in most of the cities of the world.

http://www.nightsolo.net/ff8/part8.html - this has all of the information you need for gaining every weapon in the game

happy hunting :monster:

Edit: BEAT TO IT AGAIN :mokken:

Quetzacoatl (name slaughtered, but I think you'll know which I mean) has the Card ability, and after you learn that, you'll unlock Card Mod. It's in your ability list in the menu, same place as Fire/Ice/Thunder/Wind/etc-RF, usually the last one there.

I love the card game, I swear I've spent half of the time I've played FFVIII playing it... it's addicting. :ness: You can look up a card FAQ to see which rare ones there are, but some of them are reaaaaaaaally hard to get. The lunar base thingie comes to mind for awful cards to get... there's two rare ones there I think.

Edit: Freaking ninjas.

Alright, thanks everyone. :wacky:

:8F: I'm sure I'll have more questions about this confusing stuff. :wacky:

Another one is, is there a way to tell which cards are the boss cards? Or do you only receive them from boss battles?

Boss cards are on pages 7 and 8 of the card log, If I recall correctly. They're often much better than normal cards too. However, get the three player cards at the start of the game - Seifer, Quistis and Zell, and you're basically unbeatable for ages.

the level of the cards, indicate which ones are boss cards, you can check what level the cards are by looking on the card page its self.

Page 7/Level 7 = boss Cards
Page 8/Level 8 = GF Cards
Page 9/Level 9 = GF Cards Cont.
Page 10/<Level 10 = Player Cards i.e. Squall, Rinoa etc.

below level 7 are your basic monster that you encounter on the world map

....:ness: Are those miss-ables? I'm damn well hoping not... :ness:

I got the Ifrit card and all... Won some card games from random matches, when I finally figured out how to play...

Huzzah! I'm off to get those then. I actually didn't wanna bother getting all the cards, but tbfh, I'd be bothered if I didn't now. xDD

Thanks! If I have more questions (most likely) they shall be posted here! :D Thanks for the help, guys!

I think its in the classroom not the cafeteria :hmmm:

I thought it was one of them in the classroom on my first playthrough but it is the cafeteria, its Trepe Group member #1 hes at the back of the cafeteria, you have to go and speak to one of the guys, but it comes up Talk to guy in the front and the guyy at the back, you challenge the guy in the back for the Quistis card:awesome:
