Poetry Contest

Though hourly comforts from the gods we see,
No life is yet life-proof from misery.

-Robert Herrick

And now, finally announcing our very first official poetry contest here on FFF! For all you poets out there, now’s your chance to shine! Since this will be the first official poetry contest, the winner will receive a special ‘award’ (featured in the Awards System). After this event, depending on how successful this is, we may very well continue with the program, so let’s make this one a hit!

Interested? Read on.

Rules and Guidelines

+ Plagiarism - Do not submit anyone else’s work that is not your own. All work must be original. We will be very strict concerning this and if you are caught, automatic disqualification will ensue.

+ Please mind the content of your poem. No explicit, offensive and sexual-themed, or your poem will be denied.

+ For this first contest, you may use any style of poem and must be 30 lines or less. If you submit an entry that has more than 30 lines, you will be asked to meet the proper limit. I know some of you can write more than that, but for now we want to keep the limit to 30 for a few reasons.

+ The theme will be on “Nature”. Remember to include a title for your poem.

+ Submit your entry to me by June 20, 2009. The winner will be determined through a public voting process.

+ Be creative and artistic in your writing and be sure to adhere to the theme as they will be the biggest essentials when it comes to judging and voting.

So if you have any queries, post them in this, or anything else that you have in mind.

Definitely entering this one too. Trying to think of what kind of nature I'd like to do though...

The last time I wrote a poem was when I was 15 or 16, so uh, this is going to be very interesting. Hopefully enough will enter so that we can do this every month or something. =] Or even bi-weekly, depends.

How flexible is the Nature theme? Does it just mean like plants and rivers and stuff or could it be expanded to other things?

I'm pretty sure it's plants, rivers, rain, forest nature-related since Hal mentioned Keats, Shelley, and Byron when he suggested it.

Now how to get past that first line...

It depends, nature is a quite a broad topic, seasons, animals etc are all fine. What exactly do you mean expanded to other things?

There's only a week left so hurry up and submit all your great entries. I can't wait to receive them.

The time for submitting entries is over. It is now time to vote for who will be the winner of the poetry competition.
