I believe this is where this should go here.. if not feel free to move it. :)

I was in the middle of watching a movie (Doubt it really matters but it was Advent Children Complete) with my sister. Trying to hang out with her one last time before my big move. Spend some time with her right? Well.. we were only about an hour and a half into the movie and my Playstation 3 simply shut down. I got up and flipped the switch in the back and flipped it back on because there was no light at all in front like there should have been when it is in standby, and the red light came back on. So, I hit the power button and turned it on. The light turned green for about a second, and immediately changed to yellow and turned off beeping at me 3 times and the light faded and no lights at all. So.. I flipped the switch again comppletely oblivious as to what's going on. I turned the power in the back on again and the red light came on again, and I turned it on and it instantly turned off this time, no beeps and no yellow light. Now no matter how many times I turn the system on and off it doesn't turn on. I've let it cool down for *Checks the clock now.* about 5 hours now and it's still not working. I'm kind of afraid to try anything as it's kind of under a warranty. The warranty's, however, not held with Sony as I bought it on eBay and he'll replace the money. I'll take the money and get another, but all my save data and my movie is still in this system. Is there any way to fix this system? Or at least salvage my movie and save data without destroying it to keep what warranty I do have in tact? Please help me.

I've only recently heard of "the yellow light of death" and sadly I don't think your PS3 is going to come back to life any time soon.

There are Sony services set up just for this thing though, warranty or no warranty (but you'll have to pay a fee). It is a problem they are aware of. I think this help they give though is just essentially a replacement. I'm not sure what will happen to the save data and your DVD. Perhaps they could remove the hard drive for you and perhaps if the PS3 is screwed take it apart to get the DVD out. Unless they fix it, which I've heard some people can.

It seems to affect the 60GB model more, but I'm not too sure.

Sorry I can't help much, I know very little about this problem and I dread it myself, but I have heard of it.

Send it back and get a refund, like Dan said, it sounds like the yellow light of death, fortunately it rarely happens all that much. Realistically, depending on how much you've spent you might be better off getting a new slim PS3 from a store, although you'll have to spend a bit more. Though I can't imagine getting a PS3 off ebay that's a huge amount cheaper.

Check everything is plugged in properly. Notihing loose or whatever. If the problem persists u will need a new one, it sounds like its burnt out. Sadly ul lose ur savee states and whatever but theres not much else of a choice. Anything uv downloaded of the psn network however u can regain when u get ur new ps3. By going into your downloads section in the store u can simply download everything again whilst bypassing the cost.

The only problem with simply getting a new PS3 is that I want one with backwards compatability. I contacted my warranty people and am waiting for their response. I just did it about 15 minutes ago, so I've got lots of time to wait. I love the PS3 and all.. but I hated how they took our Backwards Compatability away. I may have to just simply bite the bullet and own a PS2 and 3. Get one before they remove them from shelves. I did research online after my post last night and this is what I found as well.. the YLOD. I kept thinking "no way.. it can't happen to me" But.. I guess it did. I didn't suspect Firmware issues simply because I've had the most recent (3.5 or whatever it is now) for about 3 months or so now so it couldn't have been it, could it? If there is anything wrong with that version that is. I mean, it's played perfectly smoothly and never had any problems except for the occasional lagging while playing Sacred 2 for hours on end (You know.. heh, like 8 or 9 hours straight) but I figured that was normal. It does seem to be a heavily dependent game afterall.

Oh, no. *prays* I need my backward compatibility, too!

It just sounds like you were extremely unlucky. The PS3 is supposed to have a pretty low failure rate, and it sounds like you were taking care of it (not throwing it off buildings), so there wasn't anything you could have done.

I'm sorry. :sad2:

Oh yes, I babied it. More than I babied any other system. Hell I'd clean the lense weekly, dusted it off. I did everything I could think of to keep it in tip top shape. The ONLY thing that ever happened to it was the one time it was sitting in the seat of the car and I slammed on my brakes cuz of an idiot in front of me and it fell into the floorboard. That's the only drop it ever sustained. But yea, like I said, I'd never heard of the YLOD before a week ago.

I finally got message back from the guy I bought it and they said they could fix it. o_O Whatever's wrong with it, I was hoping they'd give detail's on what they thought it was. Lol, and they sent me a message that kinda bugged me. It's like "Be sure to remove all media and discs from the system." When I flat out told them in the email it wouldn't turn on at all and the disc was stuck inside the system and no matter what I tried it wouldn't turn on long enough to get the disc out. And there's no way in hell I'm going to take it apart. Not even for my movie. But, well, we'll see what they say. They better not take my Advent Children Complete. -_- I'd be mad if they did. Lol.
