Japanese magazine Famitsu has awarded Square Enix's Dragon Quest IX top marks - ten out of ten from its four reviewers, making for the legendary 40 total. This is only the tenth game Famitsu has ever awarded this honour to, the first being Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the N64 back in 1998.
Since its release in Japan last weekend, the game has sold a staggering two million copies in just two days, selling out across the country. The game had been in development since 2006, and still has no Western release date. We'll keep you posted.

I have to admit that I don't always agree with Famitsu's reviewers. I can't for the sake of my life figure out why they gave Final Fantasy XII a perfect score for example. They did however also give Vagrant Story which is one of my favourite PS1 games a perfect score, so I choose to be optimistic and see this as a good sign :P

The extremely good sales figures aren't really that surprising if you take Dragon Quest's popularity in Japan into consideration, but I've read elsewhere that they had sold 2 million copies on pre-order alone and further 800.000 on the first day which would be a new record for first day sales, beating the previous record holder FF VIII with a couple of 100.000 copies!
Most sites seem to have run with 2 million copies though, so that's probably closer to the truth. It's still very impressive though.
 
The official number is roughly 2,334,000 ish. Give or take a couple thousand. In two days, which still makes it the fastest selling game of all time in japan percentage wise (FFIV held a number only slightly higher over 4 days of sales)

After all the stupid shit kitase and nomura are doing with FFXIII, this has become my most awaited title. Can't wait for it to hit the states.
 
I'm not surprised, from what little I've played it's a rather grand game, and that's even though I can't read Japanese so I can't wait for the English version to come out. Thanks for the info. :)

What's the verdict on the battle system and gameplay and the like? I've seen a couple of trailers, but there's only so much you can tell from those :P

I'm looking forward to this big time myself. From what I've seen so far, Dragon Quest IX seem to be one of the best looking and most complete original titles on the DS since Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. Meanwhile I'll entertain myself with Dragon Quest V I guess.
 
I think I can understand why it got 40/40. The DQ series is actually pretty popular. I myself played a few of the DQ games, and they're actually very fun. If DQ IX got a perfect score, then Square Enix must have outdone themselves this time. 'Course, I haven't even played the game yet (can't fully trust Famitsu either), so I'm not too sure about it.
 
This is about the only game Im looking forward to at all, Ive forgot what console its on though, so if its PS3 or XBox Il have to go kill myself

Im not shocked it got 40/40 and I rarely say that about games I ve never played/seen reviews of demos for, DQ is just ...epic

I hope the main character has dialogue this time though, I foind it rather off putting when the main guys are mute ;_;
 
I think ill try and get IX because the other Dragon Quests were quite good but if this one got 40 out of 40 Im guessing it is soooo good! Well If it comes out here im buying, simple as that. Ps3 or Xbox! Oh shit I hope so! Actually Kelly dont kill yourself its on the nintendo DS XD just checked.
