Okay, I was thinking the other day, and I got to wondering that when you play online with a game that is on multiple consoles...are you playing online with just those of that game console or are you really playing against all online people from all systems?

This might be a dumb question but I wanted to know.

Like FFXI is a multiple system game online (PC, PS2/PS3, and Xbox360) FFXI is when you log on you play with every system, so i have it on PS2 PS3 and PC and i only have 1 account and a friend plays on her 360 and im able to play woth her while on my pc. Its all the same servers so they all connect together :)

Do you mean like if you are playing COD4 for example, because it is available for PC, Xbox360 and the PS3. If you have the PS3 version can you play against people who have it for PC and 360?

If so then, no...or at least on most games.
The PC versions of online games can normally cope with A LOT more people playing on servers and can handle it whilst I'm not sure what hardware the 360 is running on but normally there is a difference between PS3/360 hardware that stops you playing against other consoles...although I'm not exactly sure why.

Anyway...

PS3 owners vs PS3 owners.
360 owners vs 360 owners.
PC owners vs PC owners.

...and so on.

I have PSU for the PS2 and the server for PC and PS2 users is the same but the XBOX 360 guys have a different server

Dunno why, we should all play together and be friends :monster:

Not that I play it anymore mind...

Yes, that is exactly what I was wondering. I had Unreal Tournament III on the PS3 and was wondering if I could play with a 360 user during online play.

Thanks for answering my question though.

Ah, this seems more fitting in Rocket Town, so I'll go ahead and move it there. ;)

I've heard of several games that can be played cross platform between the Xbox 360 and PC. PC users can connect with players on Xbox Live through Windows Vista. Shadowrun and Gears of War are examples.

Other than that, you'll have to stick with players who are using the same online gaming service.

i'm acctually using my PS3 to write things on this website and i think that even if you can't play games like call of duty 4 against the XBOX360 and if you have both consoles plus a PSP a DS and a PC then you get to much but anyway this whole online thing is amazing
