Oh

1) The world - graphical environment, different places, backhistory.
2) Recurring themes - Cid characters, monsters, weapons, magic.
3) Fresh battle system - whether it be dresspheres, sphere grids, license grid.
4) Characters - personalities vary from the classic angst ridden hero to the hyper girl party member.
5) Story - It has to be an epic, whether it be war based or saving the world based.

THATS what makes a Final Fantasy :)

Right, this game didn't have those. I think that was his point.

1. The FMVs were absolutely beautiful but the graphics were grainy and choppy due to less pixels used in character models. The world had very little backstory with the exception of Nabreas, which still was very light on backstory.

2. All new names for summons and very few reoccurring themes.

3. It did have a fresh new leveling system, which really was not even remotely up to par with the other game's leveling systems simply due to multiple complications but mainly that most of the license board pieces were absolutely useless and simply there for filler.

4. We've all discussed that the members were very weak in this game. Characters like Bathier, Fran, and Basch were fairly well developed but not nearly as much as characters from other titles... and characters like Vaan and Penelo had absolutely no development whatsoever.

5. The story itself was fairly grand and complex. I did enjoy the story but I think for most people the characters were so weak that the story didn't really matter to them because they didn't care about anyone involved.

To add to VR's list:

The new enemies on trial mode are Omega mark XIII (not XII) and 5 judges.
There are a couple of new weapons, and weapon power changes (Masamune is now 117 atk which really isn't needed lol)
Quickenings now use their own 'charge bar' instead of the mp bar ^_^
After you complete game there is stong mode (lv 90 characters)
and weak mode where your characters are lvs 122333
Damage limit is removed and chests respawn from 1 screen away
And the ribbon is better now

Not everyone will agree with point 4 but people beg to differ anyway so.. lol, we'll leave that be. There are many reocurring themes. Yes, summons had new names, but they were still FF based, most, and airships were named after them. There's plenty of reocurring themes, and I guess you could classify magic names, weapon names, races under that.
Unless you think differently in that sense to me. *shrugs*

Not all graphics were grainy. Some dull, but er, yeah xD

The music, regardless of what people say, of FFXII, will never impress me. It's just not my type of music at all, and I'm sorry to those of you who think it's great, you can go on thinking that, just don't tell me that I'm wrong for not agreeing with you.

The music is crap. And not to say that it's bad or anything of the sort, it's just that there is no epic feeling to it, nothing to fill you with suspense or fear or hope. Previous FF soundtracks (especially VI and IX) did wonderfully with their soundtracks in that they went with the scene or area and helped induce an emotion in you, and they were alot more memorable. If you played me any track from VI or IX i could tell you when and where it happened. If you played me a track from XII i would have no bloody idea.

I didnt think the game looked very grainy at all...but i still hate Vaan's abs with a passion.

As for the summons, the reason they're all different is because the game is set in Ivalice, so to make it fit in that world they took the summons from Tactics and Tactics Advance. Even ugly ones like Belias and Cuchulainn are from Tactics...but Tactics DID have Shiva and Ifrit and Bahamut in it...so i'm not sure why they didnt include them.

Thank. Fucking. God.

There are a few tracks that are decent. Battle for freedom (last boss) is pretty good and gilgamesh battle is awesome ^_^

Funny, I can remember a lot of tracks from this game, but not from VII's 8D. I wonder if we will see this guy composing XIII's music..or if it will be everyones favourite once again.

my Guess would be VII.

I don't get how people don't like Random Encounters, thats that made Final Fantasy.
Final Fantasy games are a bit more than the random encounters. I prefer the random encounters to the style of FFXI and FFXII but I dont think Square Enix will go back to this style.

LOL… Makes ya wonder how much Square-Enix paid them for that rating… ;)

Don’t get me wrong, I thought FFXII was great game, but it’s certainly not worthy of a perfect score.
