I just noticed in the description for this sub-forum that FFXII got a perfect score from Famitsu magazine. And yet reading most people's posts about this game (which is mostly negative), it doesn't even seem likely that this game would get over a ten. xD

So then...why a perfect score?
Is it just that much more appealing in that side of the world than this one?
Talk to meh. :p

Yeah, I noticed that too.
Does anyone have a link to the Review?

No, but I was aware of the score before it's US release. I expected quite a bit from this title. It wasn't nearly as big of a letdown as people let on... but I probably would not have given it a perfect score.

I think for a lot of casual gamers the elimination of the random battles and love story were a very big plus to this title.

Pfft, i've seen this game get a perfect score in EVERY American review in every mag or website. I dont know why, this game has alot of flaws, i think everyone was just screaming "NO R4ND0M ENC0UNT3RS 10TEN10 OMGZ!!!"

I'd give the game an 8/10.

The random encounter was getting a bit repetitive in FF games so i think the change is good. People were expecting too much from this game because of the 4 or so years of waiting in it's development.

Yeah, I agree expectations were too high. But Imagine if there had never been another FF game and XII was the first one. If you think of it like that then I would not have been surprised that it got a perfect score.

When I first bought the game it said on a sticker on the box that it was the second Final Fantasy game to reach a perfect score. So what was the first one to reach a perfect score?

my Guess would be VII.

I don't get how people don't like Random Encounters, thats that made Final Fantasy.

No, not really. Final Fantasy is MADE by these following factors:
1) The world - graphical environment, different places, backhistory.
2) Recurring themes - Cid characters, monsters, weapons, magic.
3) Fresh battle system - whether it be dresspheres, sphere grids, license grid.
4) Characters - personalities vary from the classic angst ridden hero to the hyper girl party member.
5) Story - It has to be an epic, whether it be war based or saving the world based.

THATS what makes a Final Fantasy :)
Random battles? After 10+ plus games, don't you think that sort of thing is tiring and repetitive?

It's not repetitive if the gameplay is fresh, which is one of the factors of an FF game.

Random encounters arent a feature, they're a limitation... Even if they were to return to a turn based battle system, I guarantee there wont be random encounters.

I would give FFXII a 10/10 :3

How is that going to work?
Running into a monster you see on a field is still a Random Encounter, they can't go into the Battle Scene without a Battle Transition and that will still Distrupt the gameplay.

Er, it is repetitive - how can the whole random battle theme not be? You're still doing the same thing. Yes, the battle system, meaning, for me, licenese grid etc are FRESH, the only way it is being repetitive battle wise if you still employ the whole random battle routine. We've been stuck with it for so long, no wonder why people criticised FFXII's way of taking on monsters for the most part.

Nintendogs FTW. 8D

Its not random if you see the enemy ahead of time and can avoid it, only fighting when you want to. Versus looking for a save point and having 3 or 4 enemies randomly pop on your way there..
and not saying i want turned based, i think FFXII has the best battle system in the series by far.

I dont mind random encounters at all, the only time they get annoying is when they start to become inconsistent and one area has a low encounter rate, but the next has an extremely high one. I still think X perfected the random encounter system and made it great. Hell, you even had that First Strike feature to put on Tidus's weapons, so even if you were ambushed you could still run away.

Honestly, to me XII doesnt feel like one of the main Final Fantasies, i think it should have been included with the Tactics series. Either that or SE needs to make an Ivalice Compilation. And maybe XII: International is deserving of a 10, since they made alot of improvements to the game...but the original XII, no way.

So you've actually played the international version of XII? I've not heard about it being released, and I doubt these "changes" are anything exceptional. I've heard what some of these changes are, and they sound pretty dumb, but that was a while ago now.

Nope, i havent played it, i've read about it though. Changes include:

Revamped license board: gives you more jobs, but once you've picked a job you have to stick with it (i like that idea, brings back the class distinctions)

Double-speed mode: hold L1 to make the game run twice as fast, i really dont see the point of that

Trial mode
: survival type thing, you fight bosses and such from the game and if you arent strong enough to win, you can keep training your characters in story mode till they're stronger. Special bosses are said to be at the end of this mode, but they havent said who they are.

Controllable summons and guests
: now you can pick when you want summons to perform their special attacks, etc.

Treasure chests: placed more "conveniently" on the field, also odds of getting a more decent treasure have been raised

Money: easier to make so you dont need to spend as much time collecting loot.

Damn it, had to edit my post, he listed everything before I got to xD ^

But anyway, the changes sound pretty cool honestly. It'd be fucking fantastic to be able to control the guests.

Anyway, FFXII wasn't a let down at all to me, and I've heard plenty of people give it positive reviews. I can see why certain people wouldn't like it, but this is exactly how I feel about FFX. I do see a ton of people who hate it as much as I do, but I see loads of people who think it is the greatest FF title ever made, and everything after it and before it are shit. And I think FFX is a huge flaming pile, and I don't think it deserves any praise whatsoever about anything other than graphics. But, it's all just my opinion :monster:

I will say I wasn't impressed at all with the Espers. To be frank they were crap. I got most of them and then used them sometimes just to see them....but, I never once needed any of them in battle. Frankly when I did decide to summon them, they sorta just got in the way. They fucked the Esper's all up IMHO, but gave them such kickass back stories, and made most of them completely bad ass looking...which makes it even more maddening. I wanted to learn more about the Espers, and I wanted to see more of the world's....I dunno, history and junk. But then there'd be about 50 million people complaining about how it seemed like even more of a history lesson.

I myself don't mind random encounters. I never have, and I probably never will. But I didn't mind that they took it away and gave me something new to play with either.

The music, regardless of what people say, of FFXII, will never impress me. It's just not my type of music at all, and I'm sorry to those of you who think it's great, you can go on thinking that, just don't tell me that I'm wrong for not agreeing with you.
