Anyone else get the traitor vibe from her? I always had a bad feeling about her even before that trailer when she is seen walking with the enemy. If you look at her profile picture, her smile is less like a goody-goody-aerith-yuna smile and more like a "Muhahaha they don't suspect a thing!" smile...

I dunno, i just get that feeling when i see her that she isn't what she's trying to look like.

I can see where you're coming from, but personally no, I think she'll remain on the good side. What she has been described as in GamesCon today by believing "in sunshine, raindrops and lollipops" makes her too upbeat to be a traitor or on the evil side in my opinion. Personally, by judging on screenshots at least, I reckon she'll be a mothering character to Hope since he lost his mother.

But thats exactly why i think shes secretly evil!:gonk:

Shes too goody goody! Like Yuna and Aerith only in a really fake way. Besides she would probably be a useless character if she wasn't a traitor, unless she dies or something.

Vanille? Evil? I highly doubt it, though it could make for an excellent plot twist. Still, Vanille seems way too innocent, and from what I've seen so far, she doesn't have the makings of a traitor. As for Yuna and Aerith, they were never evil either (just too damn nice). So, if Vanille takes after them in any way, then the possiblity of her being a traitor is rather slim.

"Vanille is an endearing young woman with a relentlessly sunny disposition. Her bright personality gives no hint of the dark resolve that lies within."

- Online description

Muhaha! I was so on to something! In your face the two people that didn't believe me!

But that could just mean that there's something deep down aspect in her past that she suffers pain from, like Hope as his mother has died it's obvious from screenshots that he suffers from the pain of that :gonk:
I refuse to believe she's evil :jtc:

She may be evil.
There was something about "for every task, there is a perfect tool" thing that Jill said.
From what I understood, she meant Vanille is a tool for a certain task.

Though, she probably gonna become good or something.
Maybe she can be controlled, just like Cloud was controlled by Sephiroth.
Or, maybe she was trained to be a tool since the day she was born.
Lighting said "humans are tools" as well. So it fit.

Anyway, there is something "evil" about her . One way or another. And I like it!

Dark doesn't mean sad, it means bad :P

I think it would be cool if she was a traitor who gets close to the party as the game goes on, and then she ends up being double crossed by Jill. Then of course lightning and co have to make a moral decision as to whether or not to help her.

Edit: Dark claymore i agree, in the trailer the line reads "for every task" *focus on vanille in robes looking sad* "there lies a perfect tool".

I was meaning the resolve bit more than anything :P and I adapted it slightly as well of course. She's a mothering figure and maybe she just had a dark past, but now she's good...she won't be evil I tell you! :jtc:

That still doesn't mean she's evil! What got you to think she was anyway?

As for that line you mentioned earlier, it could come across as something completely different. I mean, she may have a 'dark resolve', but that doesn't necessarily mean she's a traitor. She could be steeling her heart for some type of task that only she alone can do. Maybe at some point she ends up running away from the group because she'll die or doesn't want anyone else getting involved., then the group has to give chase. You never know! It happens a lot in video games!

Then there's this theory I came up with. It won't make much sense if you've never played Tales of Symphonia, but there's this moment when one of your party members 'betrays' you, when in fact, he was secretly helping you, but through different actions. The same could be said for Vanille if she ever does end up the type to betray the party. I still refuse to believe she's evil, but I guess it's still possible.

I don't know if this has already been mentioned... But Oerba and Hope are the only two characters confirmed to have an actual positive relationship thus far. Lightning and Snow's is described as "interesting", Hope has animosity towards Snow, Lightning seems to have that "cold exterior" thing going for her, etc... For this reason, and from the information we've gathered thus far, I really wouldn't expect her to be a traitor.

Yeah can see where you are coming from and think that you could be right ^-^

Have seen people act like this is real life. They act too happy/ cute/ sweet whatever and they end up being fake/ manipulative as anything..

Reckon is she is acting happy/ sweet/ innocent to hide her pain inside though and not anything sneaky or nasty. But she could possibly end up being a unexpected traitor..

Like what Darkclaymore said on the idea that she could be mind controlled by somebody kinda like Cloud/ Jenova - Kain Highwind/ Golbez

But yeah is going to keep a eye out for any " Suspicious behavior " throughout gaming
:ness:

Oerba is obviously a poacher. She has half a bear hanging from her ass. :ness:

I don't know much about her character yet other than that she is really cheery and likes sunflowers and lollipops (I swear I read that somewhere). I can't say I believe she will be a traitor. It might be interesting if she was, but I really doubt it. Sunny cheerful characters in FF games often tend to be on the side of good.

Rather than being the Aerith-Yuna type character I can instead imagine her as more of a Rikku-Yuffie-Selphie, if we had to compare her to someone else in the series.

I'm not sure if they would pull off a traitor storyline with Oerba, or how it would work. If she was pretending to be so gleeful and was actually scheming something for Jihl and Raargh that could be a plot twist I suppose. However I think she probably suits to be pure the whole way.

She seems to be this games cheeky and playful, but good-hearted, female character.

I agree, especially with the first paragraph. I don't think she'll be fully 'evil' if it does come down to that. She might have her own motives for being on the dark side and yet the viewers don't necessarily have to see her as someone who's overly evil because we could understand her situation far better than the characters in the game. That is, IF she does end up betraying her comrades - we don't even know this for sure yet. =]

She reminds me more of like a Yuffie character sorta way, mixed in with some Tidus or Yuna personality. So whatever her role may be, traitorous or not, I'm sure it'll be very interesting to say the least.

I hope not, I do like her. She seems too cute pie to be a traitor. Watch now she becomes evil after me saying that!

I think she has some past hidden away, which I think is obvious with her scene with Serah when she says sorry and in her scene in the TGS trailer with Sazh when he says "You think you die, and everything starts shooting rainbows" and then she replies with "What do you want me to do", however, she does so emotionally.

Therefore, whilst I think she has done something in her past which has affected Sazh and Serah, at least, she seems deeply sorry for it. Which to me, says she isn't evil >.>

Something in my gut tells me that Oerba has some kind of connection to the Pulse fal'Cie. Something that either lead to its discovery and it being taken to Coccoon, or that caused it to start choosing l'Cie. Or both.
Serah was chosen as the first Pulse l'Cie from Coccoon, and Sazh's son might have been the second, hence why she apologizes to Serah, and why Sazh looks like he's close to killing her in the TGS 2009 trailer.

That may be the dark secret, or whatever, that's been mentioned in her official profile.
That, or she could be the human form of the Pulse fal'Cie. x3 Hey, stranger things have happened...!

Either way, traitor or evil? No, I don't believe that'll be the case.
