So I just finished doing the obel lake side quest, and the last clue I received from the creature in the lake was...

"Back in the day, south of here, there used to be a small but beautiful village surrounded by beautiful forests. Everyone lived a happy life there"

So I go to the forest area and the clearing to the east of Edea's place and all it says it that there is rubble laying among the grass...and thats it

So my question is what exactly is/was this? How does it fit in with the story? Sorry if this is a dumb question, but im playing the game for the first time in about 7 or 8 years so I didnt remember alot of this...

thanks!

Honestly, I think it may be a reference to the Centra continent before the Lunar Cry that destroyed it. Not really much point though even if that happens to be true.

That's pretty much it. Last Lunar Cry demonished most of Centra, it's more just to let you know the background of the continent, really.

IMO i really hated the Obel Lake quest, aswell as that damned monkey one too.

Well the quest basically just got you a Three Stars which in itself is a shit item. Seriously, in the endgame, you're just hammering them with physical attacks. Who wastes time with spells then? Besides Meltdown of course.

Lol depends on how you structured your party. i always had atleast 2 caster - specific members, but you are right about Three Stars... follow some talking rocks to get a really shit item... not worth the time and effort imo.

Didn't mind the Chocobo Side Quest though, end up getting the Chocobo Card in the end aswell as your own chocobo <3

I remember how badly I felt I needed one of those Pocketstations.

I always kind of sucked at the FVIII sidequests. I never finished the Pupu thing either. I'm a failure.

(I have gotten every GF and killed both Weapons though)

thanks guys. And I did get the three starts, but only after 30 minutes of messing around with that stupid red rock. I was about go give up on it.

I actually think the ffVIII sidequests are pretty weak. Minimal effort, minimal reward for most of them and other than Bahamut and Ultima Weapon quest theyre boring for the most part

That PuPu quest was evil! Especially trying to find the one around Grandidi forest! (Can't believe i remembered the name of that giant place!?)

Scooting through half the map just to get to the spot was tedious....all the way from Centra :gonk:

Yeah, most of the sidequests were pretty bad. They didn't really start making them good until FFIX where the ultimate weapons were found through a side quest.

Though the Deep Sea Research Center is easily the best Sidequest I've seen in awhile.
