Zombies, pirates, ninjas, samurais, theives, monk warriors... all cool. All so very cool. The coolest of which we may never know. However, one thing is for sure... plot lines that never get explained suck big balls. And if they're explained very poorly, it's even worse. I'd rather have no plot than a bad plot.
Capcom is the guiltiest of the game developers for putting hordes of zombies in their game without any good explanation. Dead Rising and Resident Evil being the most notable of them. Other game developers include zombies of course. They're never explained and if they are it's just due to "Virus X" or some other bullshit non-descript virus that is never thoroughly explained. This trend isn't just in games either... movies are another major culprit.
Zombies aren't the only ones either. Good example... the movie "The Last Samurai"... the town is attacked by ninjas. Why? No clue. Ninjas are cool and they thought it would help sell the film. How lame. It's one of the worst thing in games to just randomly be attacked by a pirate or a black man with a huge machine gun that has no reason for existing at all. Bad stereotypes are bad... but ones that should have some explanations like zombies are really really bad.
