It's almost been ten years since FF 8 was released since 1999.

SE celebrated Ten years of Final Fantasy VII with a movie, many games and celebrated cellphone sequels.

But it looks like SE is going to do nothing to celebrate Final Fantasy Eight..

Been searching around the internet to hear what news SE are possibly planning to celebrate the ten year anniversary of VIII..

But it looks like SE are going to do nothing, it looks like they are just moving on, or maybe pretending to ignore VIII ?

It's a bit unfair how FF VII gets all these games and sequels and well, FF VIII gets ....nothing ??

Poor Squall ! T_T

Hmm unfortunately its just not only FFVIII but IX all the past titles and probably all the titles launched afterwards. FFVII was Square's biggest hit ever I believe they did it due comemoration of the following;

With FFVII Square became extremely famous world-wide and most people before that didn't even knew what a Final Fanatsy game aside from Japan. FFVII was the first game they brought to Europe and America, afterwards Square's fame growed dramatically around the world (you can tell by the amount of flaws on text they kinda rushed it though lol :P.) So you can consider FFVII as their first big game that was a complete sucess on the gaming world, hence the special treatment.

Probably X will receive the same treatment... but most unlikely unless they had some reason to, but I'd love to see a X movie sometime tbh.

SE can't make movies. Regardless of how pretty AC was, it was just...a fanservice thing, with pretty graphics, flashy fighting scenes, filler material, and bit of a lacklustre and possibly pointless story.

They need to stick to remaking games. So, they should at least remake VIII. Not start making any bloody sequels. Same goes with other famous titles too.

I don't think FFVIII really has the hype big enough for all the stuff VII has had done to it.

There's a logical explanation for this. Unfortunately, FFVIII was no where near as popular as VII. Fans of FFVII demanded something new, as we continue to do. I am a fan of nearly EVERY Final Fantasy game, well starting with VII. I loved VIII as well, but it just wasn't as famous as VII. Most games weren't. However, don't be too disappointed, I have a feeling that if and when they remake VII, they will remake VIII as well. So eventually you may just be playing FFVIII on the PS3 or something higher. :)

This is a bad thing? Yes, FFVII has had Sequels, Prequels, Movies, etc but the quality of them hasn't came close to matching the original game. I'm glad that SE have left FFVIII and FFIX alone instead of trying to further complicate things with spin-offs. It's best left untouched.

I agree that maybe they should do something to celebrate FFVIII's tenth anniversary, but I'd hate for them to make more games in that universe x_x a remake announcement would be nice, but unlikely. Maybe a special FFVIII PSP with the Dissidia NA release or something?

FFVII was whored tbqh, even though I thought the main game was great I still don't think it lives up to the standard of IX, and neither do I want IX whored or VIII. Compilation whoring destroys games purely because people get sick of the same characters and the fanboys in brings, I mean, Cloud is everywhere nowadays and people still mention him being related to XIII.

I'll happily not have a celebration for VIII. :awesome:

I'm gonna have to agree with Phoenix, Mercurial, and anyone else who said FFVIII getting sequels and spin-offs would probably be a bad thing.

Not just because FFVII's compilation material wasn't all that fantastic, but also because Square Enix seems to be unable to make awesome FF games after they released FFX.

Sure I might enjoy a spin off of FFVIII (preferable a prequel, they wrapped up the ending real nice in the original), but not until Square Enix proves to me that they can pump out games like the used to. Otherwise I'd question whether I'd buy it at all. >_>

I personally believe that it has to do with FFVII being wayyy overrated. Sure it's a good game, but it's not as good of a game as other Final Fantasies or other games period,at least in my opinion.

I do believe that Final Fantasy VIII,IX and all the Final Fantasies before FFVII should at least get something. I don't really think sequels and such would be such a good thing. But I believe they should get merchandise released to celebrate them on reaching certain marks such as a ten year anniversary. As for it happening,I don't really think it will. But hey they are in the works of releasing Play Arts figures of FFIX characters(which I thought would never happen) so it could probably happen.

I think they if SE wasn't so busy with XIII and versus and how far behind they probably are, they would have done something as it would be a nice way to cash in. Which is what they've done with VII. It was a great game but it does seem like it's been flogged for a bit too long.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I doubt they we remake or have anthing more on the previous final fantasy games, unless its changing it to a handheld platform. The Fabula Nova Crystallis series will no doubt take over and SE wont have time for much else. Then another project will come along maybe on a PS4 or something.

Personally I think that the past final fantasy games are great, and I love replaying them, the nostalgia they conjure is brilliant and the stories are still great, so i wouldn't want them to be tinkered with! :)

as people have said, FFVII just had an AMAZING amount of hype due to the unique story, gameplay, and back then it was even a graphical achievement for a video game. It was a big hit, and they celebrated it. In my eyes, FFVI was the best one, but alas... no one cares... ~sigh~

Thats pretty much what i was goin to say :p
Yea in my oppinion square can celebrate the 10 year anniversary of FF8 by just leaving it alone. No sequels/prequels etc just leave it as a classic. Even though its been 10 years..who cares, its still one of the best games today.

i see it as celebrating their biggest game and most sold game. FFVII was the game to bring SE to the forefront, ya know?

Plus, I think it would get annoying to see celebrations over ever 10 year anniversary of a FF game. Remakes, Movies, spin-offs. Just too much.

Not saying VII was not a good game. I loved it. Just was not the one that put SE on the map like VII did.

They probably aren't celebrating it because it wasn't nearly as popular as VII . And im sure they did all the extras to VII to make extra cash. Like Phoenix said i'm glad they aren't "celebrating" VIII yeah it was a cool game don't get me wrong but it'd just not only make them greedy cos, im sure they made a shitzz load of profit but it'd confuse people and make things more complicated. Like with the spin offs with VII just confused me >_<

Probably when Square Enix finish some of their projects they will care about FFVIII.They have very much work for now to do and they can't start another project.

Feh, they've never celebrated anything before it on the 10 year anniversay either. They knew how big VII was and the hoardes of fanwhores it had and milked it. People were always left wanting more after VII finished, I blame the ending, all the others were wrapped up nicely, but the ending of VII left you wondering...and wanting more

I just dont think any other game in the series has a hoarde of fangirls/boys like VII does, sSE simply expoilted that, at least, Imo anyway <.<

But they celebrated the ten year anniversary's by porting the games on the Game boy Advance, didn't they ?

To be truthful was hoping for something small like a book on what happened during FF8, a re-update on the song Eyes on me, or maybe a PS3 or Xbox 360 demo on what it could of looked like with today's graphics.

Because really dislike what SE did to FF VII with advent children and don't want other games to have the same treatment, and glad most of you guys agree that spamming the series with spin offs and other small collections isn't a good idea.

Though was thinking that it would be nice for somehow for FF8 to remembered by..
Unless it's another FF7 advent children or DOC then would rather FF8 to be ignored >__> [ imagines Squall going around shooting guns and wearing a Gothic cape and shudders ]

Crap, I didn't think of that.....xD

I'd still rather they left it alone anyway.... there'd be no sense in porting it anywhere I don't think, although I suppose I wouldn't put it past them, I doubt Id buy it if it was on a hand held though...more people have the likes of VIII readily available than the Nintendo versions of the earlier gaems

I'm just hoping the decide NOT to celebrate the anniversary, and I hope they leave IX alone aswel>.>

personally, i think ff8 is better than ff7.
although i haven't played ff7 yet. hahah.
hmm maybe i shouldn't say that it's better..
but it's just not fair that ff8 doesn't get any
of those that ff7 gets.. yeah i've played ff crisis core..
but REALLY. i want ff8 to have what ff7 has.. :D
i don't want ff8 to die just like that. hahaha. :D

It would be nice if something was done to mark this games greatness. Its a pity that SE havent done anything for it, but 7 got alot of stuff through at its fans.

I'd like to see something done to celebrate the anniversary. It's one of my favourite games after all. =/

When Advent Children came out, I wondered what would be like if there was a movie about VIII :D Back then, to me, it was logical that there would be something, since the game graphics and the cutscenes were better then VII. But, although I'd really like to see it, a movie seems out of the question. D=
