Nihilism

I find it entirely sad that people use the bible as a sort of shield as if anything they do they can say "God/Bible told me to do it!". To blindly listen to a book that easily could be the greatest hoax since...well, ever, is just plain stupid. And to allow it to control your actions and committ atrocoties "In his Name" is beyond anything I can understand. Fundamentalists are the worst kind. Being extremists they are unwilling to reason or listen to logic which makes them very dangerous to deal with.

Some people not only blindly do as an excuse, but they take it as reality. Those people are scary. I guess there's no point arguing with such people. They can't put on much of a debate, but they can spout a lot of hot air. Unfortunately, intellectuals like ourselves lose interest quickly. What creationists exists that we haven't been able to deal with?

The bible is an excuse plain and simple. Many people use it as an excuse to do different things.

There are those who use it as an excuse to commit atrocities like whiping out an enemy nation saying it is God's will.
There are those who use it as an excuse to hide from reality to say the bible is right and to cease to think for themselves.

I find those that use it as an excuse to hide from reality to be most pathetic. At least those who go to war are just making use of a popular delusion to acheive their desires. Those that hide are just too weak, once upon a time the weak would die.

What ever happend to natural selection I wonder?

They try to antagonize natural selection because they think it's hurting their theory. In terms of reality though, it's foolish because they're only trying to protect a theory that hurts both humanity and the truth. So they try to paint over natural selection as if it were a bad thing in order to make people think its wrong. Sadly, most people are gullible, so if it sounds right, they will believe it. Deception, mostly. It is unfortunate that there weren't more better speakers for science and natural selection who could explain things more easily with appeal so that the laymen would believe them. But then again, there's nothing about science about convincing other people to believe you except through what you have observed, written down, recorded and experimented so many times; it's not appeal; it's a result. Scientists were never trained to write or speak beautifully; only clearly to those who work in that field and understand what's going on. That's why such people as Robert Ingersoll are rare. That's not to say there aren't any scientists who are good orators, but what the field demands and what debating demands are not quite the same. Since most creationists are good at bullshitting, and they'd have to, otherwise logic and reasoning would stop them, they're usually better at debating, even if every word they speak is fallacious, rude and arrogant. They just make you think otherwise. This is the kind of thing most laymen will not distinguish.

It is indeed a shame science lacks decent speakers to explain it. That is why I hold a degree of respect for all Meta-physicists.

The blend of science and philosophy makes for some very interesting views and they are useually good at speaking, even to laymen.

However religion has always had an edge in that respect for its threats and promises are easy to understand. I.E. have faith live forever in paradise don't have faith and suffer forever more.

It's so quaint and small minded I can not help but laugh. The whole idea of heaven and hell is merly to convert people to Christianity nothing more.

Well, anyone in their right mind who reads the bible wouldn't trust it because of its atrocities. So of course, if those religious folks try to paint the image that God is good and proselytize it blatanly, and dress things up like a cheap car salesman advertises and fools people, people are gullible and will be fooled. At the most basic level, they will fail to question the atrocities outlined in the Old Testament. Unfortunately, using intelligence is harder to grasp than just listening to someone blare off about faith and other nonsense. It's easier to motivate somebody when you sound right, even if you're not. That makes the difference between people who think with their heads and those who do not think at all.
