...well, I can't be the only one who has bought this, can I? XD;

I was just wondering: for those who have bought it, what are your impressions? And for those who haven't, do you intend to in the future?

As for me...I am LOVING it. Its been a while since I had such pure, undiluted fun on a game. Its not as addicting as some games I've been playing *coughMonsterHunterTricough* but its a really interesting experience. Its so...surreal, sometimes. Some of the bosses are freaky as hell...

The characters are refreshing, as well. A talking book with an imperious attitude, a righteous, devoted father out to help everyone and an androgynous woman who swears every other word make for some seriously funny conversations.

It even mocks itself for playing so much like a Zelda game! ♥

The only complaints I have are the occasionally sub-par, blocky graphics - although my eyes have recently been treated to FFXIII's visuals, so I might be being a bit harsh on it...although there is DEFINETELY something wrong with the lighting effects, particularly on the sea - and THAT DAMNED FISHING MINIGAME. Fishing should not be so damned awkward.

I'd wholeheartedly recommend it. The soundtrack alone makes it worth buying. I have never, EVER heard a better soundtrack than NIER's...and I am extremely picky about my game music ♥

I thoroughly enjoy everything I've experienced from the game so far, I haven't reached any fishing minigame so far so I can't really comment on that :lew: However, it is an extremely enjoyable game. I agree the graphics probably aren't as good as the should be for a seventh-gen title, however, it's Cavia's first ever title on the Playstation 3/Xbox 360 so they can be forgiven.

What I enjoy about this game is that it never pretended to be something it's not, it didn't have the hype that Final Fantasy XIII so subsequently never failed to deliver, again, like Final Fantasy XIII. It takes everything back it basics with the missions and open gameplay, even the concept and design is fantastic. I really enjoy the storyline to so far, like I said in a different thread, I find being the father saving the daughter more intriguing than the brother saving the sister (though I do prefer the character design in Replicant).

The OST though, is one of the greatest of all time.

I think fishing is only as irritating as it is because until you raise your fishing level you'll end up losing your catch practically every time you cast your line...I've done all the available Fisherman's Gambit quests thus far, and I'm catching pretty much everything I hook now, but it took me a few hours to get to this stage...it just feels very random at times when things get away for no apparent reason.

To be honest, I went into this game without even knowing what the gameplay would be like, its been a wonderful surprise to find it so addicting. I've spent more time questing than I have doing the actual story (although I think I've done all the currently available ones now, since Devola hasn't got any more for me) for money and for the comments Weiss makes on the situations. XD

I've spent about two hours killing sheep and goats repeatedly for wool and hide...damned item drop rate ><

Being a father out to save his daughter is definetely more intriguing, as its not a plotline you commonly see in RPGs...not to mention Nier is a pretty interesting character in himself. At the moment the story feels a little random, like a typical gotta-collect-em-all action-adventure game, but then I'm not very far along in the story at the moment either.

Replicant's Nier looks like Raiden from the MGS games to my eyes...

I ended up renting the game and just started playing this today. Despite my prejudice against the hero's design, the game is fun to play so far. Not much story bits or characterization in this game, but you're just one guy running around, so it's to be expected. The convos with Weiss are funny though.

The sidequests are addicting too, and I basically spent more time doing them then playing the game story. Of course I got to the fishing part and met a road block -__-

Apparently a single playthrugh doesn't seem to take much time. I've been hearing as short as 17 hours, and that kind of sucks for an RPG at first glance, but playing through the game again (New Game+?) unlocks scenes - apparently the story I want is in the second playthrough :hmmm:

Not to mention 4 different endings, so if you don't get bored playing the same game 4 times in a row (in succession anyways) the game's alright.

Im gonna pick this up when I finish my last exam on the 18th I think. It looks so awesome and its one of the 3 games I have my interest on right now. Nier then Resonance of Fate and then Red Dead Redemption. Nier has DLC already also! Im defo gonna buy this. Looks so epic. I hear the graphics are shit though but I dont care.

Despite her slutty appearance likely concocted by a horn dog, Kaine is such a riot, I love her :awesome:

Haven't gotten to any part about her
being possessed by a male demon
but that might be a second-playthrough thing.

I'm only gonna have time to beat the game once Dx

Anyways, the game has an awesome soundtrack. Lots of vocals, but it's really nice ^^

And omg, the Deathdream thing is pretty wacky. At first I was thinking "wtf? o_O", but then I just rolled with it. The beginning "story" didn't seem well written, but it eventually flows through. I just wonder why such a thing got implemented in the game :hmmm:

It is~

In the second playthrough and thereafter, you start from the point where you
free Kaine from petrification
, so you won't have to play it from the beginning again. Everything carries over, as well...by my third playthrough I was approaching level 40, could kill everything in 1-2 hits (I love the DLC greatsword; its so broken) and knew my way around everything...I managed to get through the second half of the game in about two hours. The extra scenes and dialogue and whatnot should stop you getting bored from it.

Also, on a lesser note, the 3rd/4th endings can be done without starting the game again...you get a choice of two options at the end. The first gives you the third ending, the second gives you the fourth. So just save your third playthrough twice before the end. XD

Back up your data before you get the 4th ending though, if you want to keep it.

If you're going for the weapon upgrades, though, be prepared for a lot of misery. You can use Words to up the item drop rate, but all that means is that you're going to get a lot of shit items. A lot of weapons require multiple rare items, as well...

I need to return the game before I got to work today, but I started a little bit of a second playthrough. Enough to read stuff about Kaine's childhood - poor girl D=

And yeah, I heard about how Ending D erases your save data. Seriously, what's up with that? o_O

Not to mention there was a glitch in the Mythical Forest. Had to re-load the game just so that I can select the correct answer without it being called wrong X_x

Oh, quick question. In the very beginning when you fight, you gain levels, but when you start "again" you're back to level 1. Is there a reason for this?

There is indeed, mmmyes, and that reason is...

The Nier that you play as at the very beginning of the game is the "true" Nier, whereas the one that you control for the majority of the game is a vessel for that Nier, who is now the Shadowlord. So technically, they aren't the same person.

...on a random note, is it just me, or is
Popola
extremely scary at the end of the game after
Devola
gets cut down? The maniacal laughter is quite a personality switch...@_@

^ Ah, okay. I remember that being mentioned around the end, but I guess it was too vague for me >_<

I just wonder if the levels gained were actually implemented in the game :hmmm:

And lol, I thought the same thing. I can understand the grief and the out-of-control must destroy everything reaction, but that laughing bit was kind of random. I'd like to think the voice actor was having fun with that scene though xD

^ Well, I had to play the game through three times to pick that much up. The ending didn't make a whole lot of sense...the second ending, which
focuses on the "real" Nier and Yonah that you see at the beginning of the game
made much more sense to me...the third and fourth endings just explain Kaine a little more.

I still have absolutely no idea whatsoever what the Black Scrawl is, though. Initially, I thought it had something to do with
being posessed by a Shade, since Kaine got it after she was posessed by Tyrann, but that doesn't explain how the "real" Yonah got it in the prologue, or why Tyrann was so bothered by it just before Kaine goes mental...
...yeah, that game needs more scenes. There are still so many unanswered questions...all I got from the DLC was that Nier married a complete maniac.

...that is a good theory! XD
It'd explain why the game is so ridiculously easy, even on hard mode. About the only way to get a challenge out of it is to do the World of Recycled Vessel as soon as you possibly can, on Hard Mode.

I just got ending B tonight, and I must say I actually liked Nier better than FFXIII. The characters, story, music, and voice acting are just really well done.

I didnt actually guess the ending either. I had ideas, but none of them were dead on. So I was honestly surprised. I love the whole setting and the ideas behind the story. Actually, its one of my favorite games now.

i never even heard of this game, but after watching that video im pretty much sold. Might have to stop by gamestop tomorrow and pick it up, seems pretty awesome. one question, is there a lot of cutscenes?

(y) It took everything back to the basics, characters that were different and appealing, a solid storyline, the best OST I've ever heard and solid voice acting opposed to Final Fantasy XIII's "Oh we'll make it look pretty and sell it on that" and the main point, it was never overhyped, NieR doesn't pretend to be something it's not.

I think I got about a third of the way through the game and then my old PS3 got the YLoD so I'm going to have to start it again since I got a new slim PS3. I don't mind though, it's an enjoyable game. :ryan:

About the music, I read an interview of the singer and it turns out the songs are sung in completely made up language! xD

She was saying how she took bits and pieces from every language and tried to make it her own, so the songs really can't be translated :lew:

Yeah it's pretty awesome, there was some definitely some English, and it sounded like some Japanese, German and French. I presume there might be some made up words as well. :hmmm: Either way it was pretty awesome, but I've still to pick it up yet since I got a new PS3 ;_;

Just started playing and so far so good. Though the leveling up really fast in the beginning was funny :lew: I am enjoying it so far. Loving father he really is. I named him Nier btw. Did anyone else?

I named him Nier as well, since the title of the game doesn't make much sense if you don't. XD
I still need to get the Platinum trophy for this...need to get the final ending (the one that wipes all your save data...hence why I don't have it yet) and upgrade all the weapons...which is a time-consuming nuisance, hence why I haven't done it yet. Nier is one of the few games that I'd actually like to get the Platinum trophy for, since I enjoyed it so much and it gives me a wonderful excuse to play it again

I came to the conclusion that the Beat in a certain amount of time acheivements.trophies are a fucking pain in the ass. I didnt know that You had to do this for some boss acheivements. Ridiculous..

So I finally purchased the game for real this time. I'll give it a go soon, but I was curious-did anyone buy that DLC for it? I kind of promised myself I wouldn't buy the DLC, but is it worth looking into anyways? I got NieR at a pretty cheap price, so if DLC isn't too pricey, I might consider it.

Also, there's a remix OST of the game called "NieR Gestalt & NieR RepliCant 15 Nightmares & Arrange Tracks". It's pretty kewl. A couple of heavy metal/techno mixes, but there's a nice vocal-only song, and an 8-bit montage thing xD
