NIER

Pros:
+ The soundtrack. Its the most incredible OST ever created. EVER.
+ The battle system is fluid and works incredibly well.
+ Kaine. Kaine is awesome.
+ Incredible voice acting.
+ A very dark and mature story, with some very dry, humourous comments coming constantly from the protagonists. Its extremely enjoyable to watch.
+ Multiple playthroughs unlock more of the story, so its got replay value. Four playthroughs of replay value, to be precise. You start from the middle of the game and carry everything over, as well.

Cons:
+ The graphics are absolutely godawful. Worse than Dragon Age.
+ If you only play it once it makes very little sense.
+ Its too easy, even on hard mode. The only challenge is the DLC.
+ Without sidequests, its about ten hours long.
+ The fishing minigame is frustrating as hell to start off with.

Why you should buy it: NIER hasn't had anywhere near enough appreciation. Its definetely one of the best games to have come out this year thus far, and I'd say the quality of the soundtrack alone makes it worth buying. Even though its relatively short if you don't do the sidequests, Platinuming it (if you're into that sort of thing) will take you a fair while (well, depending on how lucky you are with item drops) and multiple playthroughs help improve its lifespan somewhat. Plus the DLC is actually pretty challenging if you're at a lower level.

Resonance of Fate

Pros:
+ The combat system is quite innovative. Its similar to Valkyrie Profile/Eternal Sonata in its execution: characters all have turns in which they run around the field, and the enemies will move as you do. You can also plot courses to run along, during which you can somersault over things in slow motion and pour on the damage, etc. Its quite addictive.
+ It looks absolutely gorgeous. Not quite as pretty as FFXIII, but the scenery is of a completely different type - its all very grungey, and gets more and more antiquated the further you go down.
+ Its hard. Oh yes. Extremely hard. If you like your games hard, you're more than covered here.
+ Customizable characters? Playing dress-up is fun!

Cons:
+ Its extremely aggravating. If you make but one mistake - just one - the game really lets you have it. You WILL get a Game Over. Constant death makes the game very annoying, and grinding doesn't really help all that much; this game is quite anti-grind.
+ The music is a real racket a lot of the time. Which is shocking, considering its mostly composed by Motoi Sakuraba...
+ The story takes a long time to kick off. A very long time.
+ ...in short, this game has a very high entry barrier: you need to be extremely patient (not as patient as you have to be with FFXIII, though) to get into it. Once you do get into it, it'll come naturally to you. But you're going to make a lot of mistakes and die a great deal to start off with, and you're going to get very bored whilst you do so without anything resembling a storyline to distract you.

Why you should buy it: Its a tri-Ace RPG, which really is reason enough. If you've played the likes of Valkyrie Profile, you'll know what to expect in terms of quality, and RoF delivers it. Its challenging (although this goes beyond the point of controller-throwing frustration to nuke-the-world frustration) and, once it warms up, its just as enjoyable as any other RPG you might name. The battle system is addicting as well, and it makes a change to use guns and grenades instead of swords and magic.

Can't comment on RDR, because I haven't played it and have no intention of doing so.

As for White Knight Chronicles...the battle system is similar to FFXII's, although lack of Gambits and whatnot makes it a bit clunkier, and it looks quite nice, but its mediocre at best and will take you a while to warm up to, as well. Online is good though, provided you can find someone competent to play with.
