A batch of thirteen new screenshots for Square Enix’s upcoming Cavia-developed Nier for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 have been released today. The screens are an assortment of huge beasts, shops, menus and everyday mingle.

See the new shots at the gallery.

The screen shots look good. I'm not sure if there will be much graphical difference between the 360 and PS3, but it looks good.

However I'm still very disappointed in the lack of choice of which version we can get. I don't care how shallow this sounds but if I'm investing good money into a game to play, I want my pretty boiz in it. It's what I like to see as opposed to these muscle heads.

Visual appeal does factor into my enjoyment even though I still love 2D faves. I appreciate the story concept of a father saving his daughter and I understand the unrealistic idea of a pretty boy father, but I'm not in a hurry to play westernized gladiator hero, so I'll just wait when it inevitably goes down in price >_>

Although I'm sure plenty of people prefer this character design even if I hate it :monster:

You don't sound shallow. But I wish women wouldn't call guys shallow for wanting pretty girls :p

This game looks like it has potential, but I fear it will fall flat on its face when it goes up against Final Fantasy XIII, Mass Effect 2, Bioshock 2, and God of War III.

Whoever decided Nier's release date has made a stupid decision. The month is packed and saturated with so many releases anyway that Nier will just be eclipsed and forgotten. As lionheart said, Nier is competing against rival games such as God of War III. What chance does it have?

The monsters look inventive, although I have a feeling Nier will just end up as a generic button bashing action game. It has RPG elements such as towns(!!) and stats, so hopefully that should distinguish it from God of War III and other action games such as Dante's Inferno.

And I don't like the generic muscular, burly, huge sword wielding protagonist. The more pretty-boy like Nier looks better. I've seen enough men with huge muscles in gaming already.
