The Square Enix theater at the annual Jump Festa show in Tokyo is always home to a few surprises, but this year saw a particularly special announcement. Those who took the time to view the main presentation were treated to a hint about a possible new project in the Kingdom Hearts series.

The theater was home to a number of clips for everything from Crisis Core to the Final Fantasy XIII games. But the big announcement came at the very end. Following a lengthy trailer for Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix, a Japanese release of the English version of Kingdom Hearts II, the message "New Project Starting in 2007" appeared briefly before the screen went blank and the theater came to a close.

The text was decorated with sparkles, and combined with its placement right after the Kingdom Hearts trailer, we took it to be a reference to the popular Disney crossover series. But, it may well refer to something else.

Kingdom Hearts III? Or perhaps a brand new series? We'll have to wait until next year to find out for sure.

Square Enix already hinted at as much at last weekend's Jump Festa event, but the latest issue of Famitsu managed to get confirmation. Something big is definitely going down in Kingdom Hearts land next year.

Speaking with the magazine, producer Tetsuya Nomura promised big movements in the Kingdom Hearts series in 2007. He wouldn't share specifics, but was able to confirm that multiple projects are in the works, both games and beyond.

The Square Enix superstar promised details some time midway through 2007, so don't hold your breath.

I heard many rumours, that theres gonna be a totally new storlyline, maybe cross refrences with older KH's maybe 0.o
well it's nice to see Square Enix doing good :)
 
All I've been hearing are rumors about Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix somehow making it over to North America. I'm hoping that's true, considering they would get a lot more money if that happened. If they are indeed going to start production on Kingdom Hearts III, then I'm both surprised and very excited.
 
Wow, this is really cool news :) I can't wait to find out more...my head is already spinning at the very thought that KHIII (or something like that) could soon be in the works...
 
hmmm .. dont want to jump the gun, but does anybody else think that the phrase "multiple projects are in the works, both games and beyond," could possibly be hinting at a theatrical release in the near/distant future ... that would be a trill feat to pull off ... both a game/theatrical release at the same time ... one could feed off the other, or be a continuation .. who knows!
 
More Riku! More Sora! And I want to see some other FF characters as well but I really wanna see more CloudxAerith!!! :excited: This is such awesome news, Boss Man! Thanks for telling us! :D and it would defnantly be awesome if they made a Kingdom Hearts movie! :O

It would be great if KHIII comes out, but surely just for PS3...
But I don't care, KH is great:)

To my knowledge, it's not gonna be called KH III. It's supposed to have a different name, but it's gonna have the same general storyline. I wouldn't be surprised if the main character is Sora's kid. That would be sweeeeettt.

I think it would be cool, if a KH game for PSP would come out.

Like CoM for GBA but not with the Card Battle-System.
 
This is good. So the series doesn't end just yet, excellent. I look forward to this.
 
this would be awesome, but i dont think it will be done and released till 2008..???
