This is my first attempt at this, kinda dumb being that you'd think that since i was in graphic design for a year i would do a somewhat better job at GFXing but i've forgotten most of what i learned. So i just get by with the stuff i didn't forget.

I'm going to use this topic for other things such as rendering too.

I need help on rendering this image i'm having a difficult time with it.

What tools could i use to make this task easier?

The first attachment is the image and the second is my attempt on rendering it.

Well first, what program do you use for your GFX?

I use photoshop CS3, i'm trying to do other things as well.

Like remembering how to do all the basics, i can't believe i forgot most of this stuff =/

Okay there are several tools you can use for rendering. One is any of the lasso tools. another is, and only if you have the patience to learn how to use it; pentool XD. But the one i mostly use, and usually gets the job done for me is the Magic Wand.

But if you want the professional look for rendering...Pentool is your best friend :wacky:

I used the magnetic lasso tool on trying to cut that out, it still doesn't look right. The head area especially, i'm trying to recall a technique a fellow GFXer told me which didn't require the use of the lasso or the wand.

Magnetic lasso is really hard to master. Even I don't like using it lol

I only use it when the other lassos give me a hard time, magic wand doesn't work on certain images. If i can't cut this out right i can't make my signature =/

How does it work exactly? is there anything i need to know about it before using it?

I just wanted to say that the myth about pentoolin being something hard to learn is overrated ESPECIALLY when it comes to rendering.
Seriously theres nothing to it. It may look intimidating but its not.

Read that tutorial and in a few minutes youl be able to render with the pentool. How well your render turns out has nothing to do with your knowlede or ability in using the pentool but on how much patience you have.

Thanks for the link i'll take a look at it and use it to study :)

Now to post something i just did, couldn't have done it without ryan though.
