The 3DS will probably be a handheld which, upon release, will cost too much, probably $200-$300 if that low. Nintendo is pretty bad about securing games for a handheld at launch, so if there are suppose to be 20 launch games, there will probably be about 6.

The system will probably be marketed well and will probably be a cool trend for awhile because of the 3D feature, but after that the price will probably half and then the systems will be old news despite not being that old.

The system will probably have decent casual games like the Sims, but it probably won't have any good intense games with developers complaining about budgets or something like that and delaying their games until the end of the system's life-cycle (opinion/theory).

In the middle of the system's life-cycle, there will probably be a bunch of promising games to make you believe that the system is a huge success, but between that it will probably be disappointing. Eventually they will probably have to redesign the system to get extra money out of it.

Where I'm eventually going to go with this is to say that, to me, spending that money on a 360 or PS3 and enjoying games on it for a couple or more years makes more sense. The 3DS probably won't be near as powerful as the 360 or PS3 because the screens and the small parts means it would probably be rather costly. $300 for a system that plays as well as the Nintendo Wii might not be bad, but I'm thinking it will be $200-$300+ for a system which plays like a PS2/Gamecube instead.

There are aspects that astound and irritate me about the 3DS. I'll start off with why the 3DS irritates me. The fact that it's arriving soon. Gradually the wave of future releases will be on the 3DS as opposed to the regular DS. It's an inevitability and frankly I'm rather content with my old DS. I have little incentive to get a 3DS that quickly which as mentioned, will probably not be too easy on the wallet. You may as well treat it as the release of a completely new handheld console.

On the other hand though, despite the obvious gimmickry in the addition of 3D in a market where 3D is being pushed to be prevalent, there are several fascinating titles that grab my attention - and I'll list a few: Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil, Zelda Ocarina of Time, Professor Layton (including that recently announced game with Phoenix Wright in it), Paper Mario and Kingdom Hearts 3D. I am aware that it's a strong possibility that a number of those games may suck when they come out, but it's still nevertheless a very strong lineup so far even if the actual launch will see few, unexciting launch titles such as Ridge Racer.

a 3ds i guess it would be good but did you say 20 dollars i could by like 5 of them what about the gamecube its a good consel but it doesnt have much games.......

so the wii is good people say they rock but i think there ok so ill give gamecube an c+ wii d+ 3ds a+++++

I've thought about how good Ocarina of Time might be in "3-D". But then I remembered how primitive the gameplay mechanics were. It was a good game in the early N64 years, and the storyline sort of holds up but... the AI and mechanics really show their age. The environments and characters were pretty ugly and I don't think bringing it into "3-D", or revving it up for a handheld, is going to do much. It being a game that was in very early full 3D means the entire game and game engine needs a complete overhaul - controls and everything.

Same goes for most 64 games.

Just looking at the list of games which is currently in development for the 3DS (before it's even out yet!) I think any speculation that it won't have any deep games early in its life time is completely unfounded.

Personally I think the 3DS will be a massive success along the lines of the original DS and the Wii. It has a brand new gimmick which is riding the coat tails of 3D cinema and has already been reviewed very favourable by anyone who's had their hands on it.

I, too, despair at the fact that Nintendo is bringing out yet another £$%^ing DS.
I'm perfectly fine with my base model DS, thank you very much! What's with all these stupid upgrades?!
I don't want to have to buy a 3DS just to play games that I want to play. Having to have both a DS and a PSP just to keep up with the FF and KH franchises was frustrating enough as it was, and I personally dislike using 3D, so it's an epic fail for me.

Oh, and don't forget, they'll probably be bringing out a 3DS-Lite or something similar about a year after launch, in their never-ending quest to make technology smaller, more streamlined, and more difficult to use (barring the DSi XL). So save your money for then, if thin is your thing.

To be fair though, it's not just yet another £$%^ing DS. The 3DS is an entirely new and more powerful handheld console, so it's only really an upgrade to the DS in the same way that the PS3 is an upgrade to the PS2.

Also the DS has been on the market for nearly 6 years now, which is 2 years longer than the Gameboy Advance got before the original DS came out, so it's not really an unreasonable time to start thinking about bringing out the next generation of handhelds.

The 3DS most likely won't launch for $300. It's launching in Japan for the same price the Wii initially launched for, so I'd assume it'll launch in the West for the same price as the Wii also. Don't forget that the Japanese economy is somewhat inflated at the moment as well (Or so I hear).

Personally, I'm very excited for the 3DS. Not only is the tech fantastic, the line-up already looks excellent - Kingdom Hearts 3D and Time Travellers alone are pushing me to purchase one. No doubt I will, eventually.

I've also seen many people fearing that the initial 'WOW' of the 3D will wear off quickly, but I disagree - I've owned two PS2s over the course of 7-8 years and I still find that it can make me go 'WOW', as that was my initial reaction to Shadow of the Colossus, which I played for the first time recently.

Metal Gear Solid 3D. That's basically the reason that I'm going to buy one. I figure I went out and bought a PSP just to play Peace Walker then I'm more than likely gonna buy 3DS just to play this game. Personally, I'm not to attached to the current DS. I own one, but I don't really play it due to the fact that I only have one game that I got bored with after I beat it. I would sell it but I hold out that I'm gonna find a game that manages to hold my attention. It goes without saying that the 3D aspect is just to go along with the whoring of 3D technology in the film industry and the success of certain movies because of the effects. *cough* Avatar *cough* *cough* Unfortunately, I'm a consumer slut so I'm going to no doubt buy one...Yeah. :sad2:

i originally was not going to buy this, but now that Megaman Legends 3 is confirmed for it, i have no choice. i don't care that it has OMG 3D or other 5-minute-interesting gimmicks - the only thing that will move me from system to system is the games that are released for them.

I feel like such a loser fan for saying this, but because a Kingdom Hearts game is gonna be on this system, that's kind of the main reason why I'm getting it (eventually). I really am excited about the technology, but I'm fine with the regular ol' DS too xD

Although there do appear to be some decent games in the works for the system, so I have faith that it'll be worth the eventual purchase.

I have to admit, it looks really sexy. A lot of positive reports have come in from hands-on reports of the 3DS, many of the praises were towards the analogue stick on the top left. Watching a few of the gameplay videos of 3DS games is err..not fully advisable because the 3D looks dodgy via a video camera and I was practically seeing double. Resident Evil on it looks great though, so it definitely looks like it's worth checking out. At the moment though, no game on the 3DS is really grabbing my attention or really exciting me, not even Kingdom Hearts 3D. Honestly, the story of the series is complicated enough, does Nomura honestly have to pile more things on top of it? I'll never get into the story at this rate and in terms of writing, the whole thing to me looks like a convoluted mess now. >.>

I haven't been following the news on 3DS all that much, shame on me, I'll probably sound like a newb for asking but it doesn't come with 3D glasses does it? Please tell me it doesn't that will put me off buying it right there. I despise 3D glasses both the 90s and modern versions of them.

No glasses, the 3DS delivers a 3D image without them :) I don't know the exact technical details, but apparently it has to do with the 3DS only having one user viewing the screen from a relatively set angle unlike a cinema screen or a home theatre which is usually looked at by several people at once from several different angles.
