Ok, so I think my dumbass computer has a virus and I don't know what to do about it

Iv tried scanning it with avast or whatever it is but it's not finding anything

I keep getting random dating websites popping up, along with the occasional 'enter your details here for a free blah blah blah' NO

Any advice please as I am seriously technologically retarded, I got a U in IT so Im kinda doomed when it comes to these kinda things

Have you disabled the pop-up blocker? Whether you've done it consciously and forgotten, or did it without realising, disabling it would cause you to get pop-ups.

My pop up blocker is still being anti pop up - so im stupmed if i know & yeah I have anti virus altho fat lot of use it's being

Avast? Never heard of it - is it a free anti-virus software?

My advice - get a proper one, preferably Norton or MacAfee. As soon as you get a copy, scan your files. If it still doesn't unearth anything, get the latest updates for the anti-virus software. After that, if it's still there, get it sent of to your computer manufacturer. If you still have a guarantee, it should be repaired for free.

In the meantime, try using Windows Defender/ Anti-Virus Software. It should be easy enough to locate on a Vista's home system. On XP, I'm not too sure.

So you know what to do with any cash you get for Christmas - buy an anti-virus software! ;)

Spysweeper works well too actually better than Nortorn or MacAfee I believe... With the free trial of Norton I still had pop-ups same with MacAfee but Spy Sweeper kills them and works better I think....

I use avast and i don't have this problem. Do you use firefox? it occasionally stops pop-ups itself. I know somebody who had this problem a while back they said it stopped after a while. Try feeding it false data or something though i don't know.

Try running AdAware; it search for spybots, malwares and things like that.

It could be useful against those pop-ups.
