It’s Tuesday, meaning it’s time for a new episode of Mortal Kombat: Legacy. Filmed in a different style to the last two episodes in the series, it features a number of amusing cameos by unexpected guests.

The third chapter in the series leaves behind Kano, Sonya, Jax and Stryker and focuses on the rise and fall of action star Johnny Cage. Brilliantly portrayed by Matt Mullins, the episode sees Cage pitch a number of ideas to a couple of producers who shoot him down and leave him with nothing. After a brief stint of fury, Cage’s world is frozen still as a mysterious visitor appears and makes him an offer he cannot refuse.

While the last three instalments of Mortal Kombat: Legacy were clearly set in Earthrealm, today’s introduction of the fourth episode has seen the focus shift to the sadistic realm of Outworld. Labelled as the first part of this chapter in the series, it breaks convention by using a combination of both film and stylised animation, not dissimilar to the style used in Mortal Kombat (2011)’s endings.

The basic storyline follows both Kitana and Sindel as their Edenian kingdom is overcome by Shao Kahn and his minions. With their lives essentially destroyed under the Emperor’s tyranny, Sindel must turn to extreme measures to ensure the survival of her only daughter.

The fifth episode of Mortal Kombat: Legacy made its debut today, continuing the storyline established last week encompassing leading figures Kitana, Mileena and Shao Kahn.

This instalment focuses on life after Sindel’s demise, with both Kitana and Mileena training vigorously under Shao Kahn’s watchful eye. With sharpened fighting skills, the couple make for a deadly pair of assassins until Kitana’s realisation that her entire life may have been nothing more than a lie.

Mortal Kombat: Legacy marches onward this week after a two-parter featuring the likes of Shao Kahn, Kitana and Mileena. This week, we see the other side of the coin as Lord Raiden makes his debut in Episode #6.

Raiden (Ryan Robbins) begins the episode locked in an mental institution suffering from what specialists believe are psychotic episodes and delusions of grandeur. He plummets to Earth and creates a small crater in his wake; unfortunately, this is how he is captured by the asylum. The mysterious Blue (Tracy Spiridakos), a mental patient prone to suicide, befriends Raiden in the facility and is the first to discover him.

Raiden is tortured by numerous lobotomy attempts and injections of Ketamine to restrain him. Perhaps weakened by his fall to Earth, Raiden is unable to escape his captors until he absorbs some amount of electricity from tasers and is assists by Blue, who destroys his physical body so that he is able to reform elsewhere. Presumably, this location is somewhere in Asia as hinted to by the surroundings. As the episode draws to a close, Raiden takes a straw hat from a man nearby and places it on his head, electricity brimming behind his eyes.

Of note, director Kevin Tanchaeron placed a special disclaimer before this episode and hinted on Twitter that this episode dealt with a mystical character in a more realistic way, as his original Mortal Kombat: Rebirth short did last summer.

The ninth and final episode of Mortal Kombat: Legacy introduces fan favourites Cyrax and Sektor, as well as newcomer Hydro. Fans of the original Mortal Kombat comic book series will undoubtedly recognise Hydro as a Lin Kuei ninja, and one of Sub-Zero’s closest friends.

Chosen by the Grandmaster of the Lin Kuei, Cyrax (Shane Warren Jones) and Sektor (Peter Shinkoda) are mechanised as part of the cybernetic initiative and put to the test against a former ally. After the battle, the order is given to proceed with Phase One on the remainder of the clan.
