The option becomes available to carry out what are essentially limit breaks but there is no explination. I get a cut scene (Very nice) then it says "time up" and i do non or very little damage. Am I missing something here or am I an idiot?

PS. The that question was rhetorical.

In that time (bar in the lower-right corner), you're supposed to chain them. Above the bar is the character name, the button they correspond to, and the Quickening with that amount of Mist Charges.

Basically, mash the corresponding button (ex. triangle to Vaan) if his quickening turns white. If you have no more quickenings, press R2 over and over again until you see no orange oval next to a whitened name and quickening.

The Quickening took me a couple of tries to essentially get used to. But this is just another thing that we can scold Square for. You can't blame them, seeing as how they wanted to release this utterly amazing game out to us hxc gamers as soon as possible. ;)

i just hold r2 and mash all 3 buttons and hope for the best
But quickenings aren't that useful from tiamat and onwards because of their low attack power and you use up all mp :'(

Seiryuu basically got it down here. You also have to remember that it's all based on luck as well. The more chains you execute, the faster the time will run out. Can't really do anything about that. It's not like you're Flash or something. But R2 is your friend here. Just keep pressing it until you get more attacks.

Hrmm...Mist is one my most disliked "Limt Breaks" or whatever.

Just keep pressing R2 and hope to get a chain out of it.

They are not really useful at all towards the middle of the game.

By just pressing R2, you won't get anything accomplished. You've got to have the awareness to quickly catch which trigger commands are in "White" so you can mash them quickly and get a chain out of them. If Balthier's is lit up, mash the "Circle" button (or something like that) quickly so it gives you time to nail another one after Balthier performs his Mist Knack.

Oh, I knew that. (If you were speaking to me). lol. I didn't like Mist abilities after Tiamat anyways.

ditto
I just tap R2, triangle, square and cross like crazy and end up having 10+ hits doing lots of damage, I advise using quickenings at the start with 3 chars then switch all 3 to your party you want to fight with. You can end it by using quickenings of the party you're using at that moment.

Atleast that's what I do ;)

I much prefer limit breaks from FFVII because they don't waste your MP and are much more powerful. Maybe it's just bacause I loved FFVII...

I liked overdrives better. You know when you were going to get them and they weren't as random and such.
