Anyone here ever think about the history of Midgar or rather, what Midgar truly is?

We should all know it is a gigantic power station owned by Shin-ra Electric Power Company. It doesn't sound like a big deal but it kind of is. I am not sure it was ever intended to be a city. When Shin-ra discovered how to use Mako as a power source, they built a variety of small mako reactors near heavily populated areas. After a very short while, they literally had enough money to build a headquarters. They built Midgar. Where they built it, almost no one lived... (I understand there were a few small villages but nothing substancial and I can't find a source on the village bit...).

So my thoughts are: how did Midgar turn into a city? Are the "citizens" of Midgar really squatters? Or are all the people who live in midgar people who are suppose to be working at the company? If Shin-ra never intended anyone to live there, do they have like... horrible security or something? Do you think they saw it as another way to make money?

What are your thoughts...

P.S. - Does anyone know if Junon came before Midgar or after? I know Junon is now a second HQ for Shin-ra but I'm not sure if it was the original HQ before Midgar was built.

Well, I do have an educated guess on what happened to the tertian in and around Midgar well after the events shown in the movie or games.

The whole '500 years later' bit. After observing the main game, movie and DC, the whole area is nothing but a wasteland.

But 500 years later we see it all lush and full of life again. So this is my guess: That was how long it took for the planet to fully recover from all that abuse.

Midgar started out as 8 seperate towns/villages. Shin-ra came and built the reactors. Then built the plates and eventually Midgar as we know came into being.
