"Metal Gear Solid: Philanthropy is a “no budget” film made by Hive Division, a collective of Italian students and young filmmakers. It's a non-profit project, based on the videogame saga Metal Gear Solid, created by Hideo Kojima and published by Konami. Driven by our passion for cinema, new technologies and Hideo Kojima's work, the aim of this project is to prove that a full-length sci-fi feature, of professional standards and with the minimum of resources, is still achievable by the hardiest amongst us. The total amount of money spent on this completely auto-produced film has been less than 10.000 Euros."

Anyone else heard of this movie? Anyone else excited about it?

I didn't think much of this project when I saw the website before the first trailer was released. There were a few screenshots that didn't look all that bad but nothing to really excite me. The first trailer looks pretty darn good, and I'm looking forward to watching this when it's finally released for free online.

Wow, I like it already. Looks excellent for the budget they have.

Acting isn't first class, but who cares, movie looks great, good effects and screen play, pretty believable too. Can't wait for it to come out nao ><

According to the official website, it should have been released for free on the net at the end of last month. Expect it soon. :monster:

The project was dropped in 2004 but started up again in 2005 I think. It's been going on for 6 years now.

True, the acting isn't all that but as long as the story is good it won't bother me much. I think it might be dubbed as well.

Pretty good, actually. The sound effects really caught my attention and the fact that they really made sure to include "stealth" in there somewhere. I thought he was going to face that monstrous-looking machine, but then he stealthily made his presence unknown as he ran on when he had the chance. That's what it's all about alright. xD I agree though, acting isn't all that, but it's fine. I'd like to see this movie nonetheless.

I'm pretty excited for it, even though I've never known about this. D: I'm fond of the lighting and effects, especially the walking screeching thing. I got a little dizzy watching this. :wacky: Snake looks pretty good as well.

I looked at the screen shots, looks like we're in for something.

I don't know if the machine featured in that trailer is actually a Metal Gear or not. In another trailer it looks as though they are being mass-produced. I'm guessing they're to this as the Metal Gear RAYs were to MGS2.

This looks very interesting indeed, I'm impressed with some of the effects such as the Metal Gear. Although I must say that I wasn't overly impressed with the acting, it just didn't seem believable to me. Another thing which kind of annoyed me was the camera work, there were too many long shots. Also the camera wasn't steady (whether this was intentional or not, I didn't really like it). But considering this is an extremely low budget film which is being produced by students, it looks pretty interesting and I will definitely watch it when it comes out.

The ADR is horrific, but the production is pretty good, especially for such a low budget.

I watched it a few years ago. I thought it was decent for what it was...but I really want the REAL movie, nothing fan made.

Yeah, we all want to see the big budget Hollywood production but this will be a nice filler, I think. It looks as though this will be released way before the movie adaption of MGS anyway, that production is so far off. Have they even decided on a director yet? I heard it the guy who did Equilibrium was supposed to be on board...

Yeah, Kurt Wimmer is set to do it...I'm to happy about that. Equilibrium had a cult status but I personally don't care to much for the movie. Besides, he also did Ultraviolet...which...well sucked horribly. With his resume I can almost guarante he will go the Twin Snake's rout and try to make the movie like Ultraviolet and Equilibrium, meaning "Matrix esque" scenes, where Snake jumps on top of missles and dodges bullets and so on.

Only thing I can see coming out of him is the fact that he is really good friends with Christian Bale and they've worked together. Meaning he has a chance at picking him. But then again with Bale working on the new Terminator trilagy I don't know if he'd go for a video game movie.

Person I wouldn't mind seeing play Snake is Karl Urban.

I haven't played Twin Snakes myself but I know of the traits Solid Snake is given in it, as you mentioned he jumps on missiles sent in his direction and dodges bullets and Gray Fox's blade. It all sounds very anime. Fitting seeing as in the original MGS, Otacon announced that Solid Snake defeating Gray Fox was "Just like" a Japanese anime.

MGS: Philanthropy is officially postponed to winter '08. Until the very last minute we'd hoped we could have kept true to our promise of a summer release. Despite our best efforts though, we just couldn't find the location for the last, vital scene of the film in time. This scene was originally scheduled to be shot last February, but the location we were planning to use was demolished before the expected date. Since then, we have been trying to secure two other locations, but both of them ended up in a series of issues and further delays.
The rest of the film has been almost entirely post-produced. Alas, it cannot be shown yet, as this last all-out action sequence is a fundamental part of the film, one we just can't do without. We sincerely apologise for not having informed you about the delay any sooner. We wanted to make sure we knew how much longer was needed first, but because of the precarious nature of the situation, we unfortunately had to proceed with due caution.
This was put up on the official website less than a week ago. I only just saw it now. Looks like they're set for a October/November release. With all the fuss they seem to be making about the final scene it had better be worthwhile. :monster:
