To me, the ultimate goal in any FF has been not to complete the game, but instead, to defeat all of the mega bosses found throughout the game.

So, I looked through the pages and as far as I could see there wasn't already a topic on this. I've always been curious about which mega bosses people have bothered to try and beat and which ones people haven't, hence the creation of this thread.

Mega bosses - These are any optional boss within the game that require you to exceed the average stats and equipment one would have towards the end of the game in order to beat them, and/or excessive strategies and battle plans.

I only know bosses to as old as FFV, anything lower than that and I haven't a clue.

So, which have you beaten? state their name and which Final Fantasy Title they come from, and if you like to brag, the strategy you used and amount of tries etc.

Here's Mine:

Omega - Final Fantasy V
Kaiser Dragon - Final Fantasy VI
Ultima Weapon - Final Fantasy VII
Ruby Weapon - Final Fantasy VII
Emerald Weapon - Final Fantasy VII
Ultima Weapon - Final Fantasy VIII
Omega Weapon - Final Fantasy VIII
Quina's Leader (I forgot the name) - Final Fantasy IX
Ozma - Final Fantasy IX
Nemesis - Final Fantasy X
Dark Aeons; All of them - Final Fantasy X
Penance - Final Fantasy X
Trema - Final Fantasy X-2
Omega Mark XII - Final Fantasy XII
Hell Wyrm - Final Fantasy XII
Yiazmat - Final Fantasy XII

Bosses that I know of but have never beaten are Tantarian on disc 2/3 in the Alexandria castle of FFIX, and Shinryu on FFV.

I hope the list isn't too dreary.

I've not finished FF1-4, granted I've started them, so I could only state the ones I've encountered. If you know anymore I haven't got down just say.

Hrmm, I actually don't remember any optional bosses in the original FFI, II, III, and IV. Did they add an optional boss in IV?

Anyways so far I've killed....

Omega - FFV
Shinryuu - FFV
Atma - FFVI - I wouldn't really count him as a mega boss. You were forced to fight him on the Floating Continent.
Ultima Weapon - FFVII
Emerald Weapon - FFVII
Ruby Weapon - FFVII
Ultima Weapon - FFVIII
Omega Weapon - FFVIII
Tantarian - FFIX
Ozma - FFIX

As for updated GBA FFV bosses. I haven't killed Omega Mark II yet or Neo Shinryuu. My boyfriend barely killed Neo Shinryuu, it's one tough boss. >< It seems to be based on luck.

Ya IV had Zeromus EG

Anyway here's my list of the FF's ive played

FF4-Zeromus EG
FF7-Emerald Weapon(Ruby's piss easy)
FF8-Omega Weapon
FF9-Ozma
FF10-Penance
FFx-2-Trema
FF12-Meh for the japanese one i'd say Omega Mark XII but from US and UK i'd say Yiazmat.

You fight Atma on the floating continent then there is an upgraded version that's optional in Kefka's tower. Also, you wrote FFXI instead of FFIX, lol.
And oh yeah Tantarian, that's the book right?

Yeah, thanks. Yeah Tantarian is the book.

Oh you mean the GBA version? You mean Kaiser Dragon or Omega Weapon? Wouldn't that be in the Dragon's Den?

I believe so. I played FFVI on GBA so it must've been Kaiser Dragon. My mistake.

Well, I began my Final Fantasy days with VII so I'll start there then...

Ruby Weapon (FFVII)
Emerald Weapon (FFVII)
Ultima Weapon (FFVIII)
Omega Weapon (FFVIII)
Ozma (FFIX)
Dark Valefor (FFX)
Dark Ifrit (FFX)
Dark Shiva (FFX)
Dark Ixion (FFX)
Dark Bahamut (FFX)
Dark Yojimbo (FFX)
Dark Anima (FFX)
Dark Magus Sisters (FFX)
Adramalech (FFXII)
Nemesis (FFX)

That's it so far. I'm going back to the origionals after XII, although I've started VI.

Hmm heres my list, havent played below VII:

Ruby Weapon VII
Emerald Weapon VII
Ultima Weapon VII
Ultima Weapon VIII
Omega Weapon VIII
Tantarian IX
Ozma IX
All Dark Aeons X
Nemesis X

I have yet to beat Penance, i've got to him with maxed out stats before but never defeated him and i've someone lost the save file. I haven't even completed FFXII yet..and as for X-2 well i got the ending and ran a mile from the game :P.

Oh I forgot about Nemesis, but comparing him to dark aeons and Penance in the UK/International version he isn't much of a challenge is he.

He proves more of a challenge than the first couple of Dark Aeons..well i would say so. I would actually count the entire Original Creations of FFX in this. Nslug was a complete pain in the arse..although i wasn't excactly coming close to maxed out when i fought him.

I would count all the Origional Monsters, also, I didn't really start facing them until I had developed exponentially. I did always fight them once when they were created, just to see how I would fare; and ultimately got decimated. I would consider Nemesis a Mega Boss, but I'm not sure I would consider Tantarian. Yer, it's an optional boss, however, it's nothing in the way of a challenge.

my list is
Ultima Weapon - Final Fantasy VII
Ruby Weapon - Final Fantasy VII
Emerald Weapon - Final Fantasy VII
Dark aeon Valefore - Final Fantasy X
Trema - Final Fantasy X-2

I thought the defeat of Atma was necessary for the completion of the main game, no? Even if the fight could be avoided, I don't ever recall him being anymore tougher than Kefka.

Anyway, there were too many optional bosses in some of these games, especially VI and X, so I'll narrow it down to the strongest ones with brief strategies:

FFVI (All versions) - Magimaster
Spammed Ultima and cast Life3 on all characters to ensure they're revived after his final attack.

FFVII - Ruby Weapon
With KotR and HP absorb combo, he was cakewalk. Without the summon, it required Hero Drinks and miming of Limit Breaks just to hurt Ruby a little due to his insane defence levels that no amount of Strength and Luck can compensate for. It was an awesome fight regardless.

FFVII - Emerald Weapon
Just like Ruby, remained an easy game throughout with KotR. In a No KotR fight, ultimate weapons and maxed out Strength were able to fully penetrate its defences, dealing 8000-9999 dmg consistently, which was a luxury you did not get to enjoy with Ruby.

FFVIII - Omega Weapon
Holy Wars/Heroes, Defend command and incompatible summons will be your best friends here. However, having high speed and Zell's Duel/Irvine's Fast Ammo Limit Breaks at full potential effectively means the fight will be over before Omega even gets a single turn in.

FFIX - Ozma
Can't remember what abilities/equipment I had for the other characters but I had Eiko for Double-White and Shock for Steiner to deal 9999 dmg. Not as difficult as hyped up to be.

FFX - Nemesis
Frequent usage of Auto-Life at medium stat level. Less of that with maxed stats, since a lot of his attacks did sh*tty dmg and he rarely used the instant kill ability of Armageddon.

FFX - Penance
Break HP Limit was the bane in this fight, the switch to Auto-Potion and Def + 20% proved worthwhile, and the fight was not so drawn out as previously.

FFX-2 - Trema
I used the "cheap" method of Gunner low HP and Trigger Happy, because I was desperate for the 100%. Can't recall what jobs I've assigned the other two to (possibly Mascots), but they healed for the most part and seldom attacked.

FFXII - Yiazmat
Weapons like Yagyu Darkblade, Zodiac Spear, Tournesol and Masamune are the way to go. I had 1 berserked damage-dealer, two in support, but this all had to change by the time it got to just 3 bars.

FFXII - Omega Mark XII
Same weapons as above, without the Darkblade obviously. Decoy + Reverse on a single character works very well here.
