I couldnt find a matrix thread and was surprised to see no-one had made one.

This thread is to discuss everything about the matrix franchise including all three films + the animatrix and all games/other stuff involving the matrix.

To start the thread I would like to discuss the episode in the animatrix that is set in the future with that little monkey creature. Whats that all about then, theories please. The episode is called matriculated.

Actually, I did make a thread on this a while ago in the Anime & Japan section but that was only for The Animatrix.

I hated Matriculated, I think it's set sometime after The Final Renaissance and sometime before Final Flight Of The Osiris but it has nothing to do with the actual trilogy unlike Final Flight Of The Osiris.

My favourite episodes from The Animatrix were Program, Beyond and A Detective Story.

As for the actual trilogy; I've adored the movies for years, I got The Matrix with my first PS2 and played it to death it's that good of a movie, IMO it's better than Matrix Revolutions but not as good as Matrix Reloaded.

I have no idea, I haven't watched Matriculated in a long while.

Doesn't it die?
 
The first Matrix was visually stunning. The special effects are still to be matched, imo. I could go on for a long time about the greatness of it, but I won't.
The Matrix Reloaded was OK, but they obviously tried too hard to recapture the success of the original. It still had good visuals and stuff, but nowhere near as good as the first.
The Matrix Revolutions was pretty poor, barring Neo's fight with Agent Smith at the end. That was pretty amazing.

The Animatrix was a pile of wank. The story behind the first couple was good, about how the war actually started, but they were just random things to show of how good at animation they are.
 
I disagree with you Pooley, I enjoyed all three films and the animatrix and thought all of them were ace.
 
Wasn't Final Flight Of The Osiris made by SE?

And unless I'm very much mistaken, James Arnold Taylor provides the voice for the detective in A Detective Story.
 
I'd have to agree with Tyler on this one. The first was the best and the only two Animatrices I liked were The Final Flight of the Osirus and the one where the girl is looking for her cat...

The first movie has a great story line and it makes you think about your own existence... The other two were basically just there... TRYING to be as good as the first... Sure the fights were great, but nothing else was.:)
 
It's a pretty complex story, I still watch it to this day and think, "Oh, so that's why..." and shit like that. It's like everytime you watch it you understand it a little better.
 
i liked all 3 films but haven't really watched the animatrix and the best part out of all 3 films is the final fight between smith and Neo at the end of the third one and the greatest visual effects were Neo's view of the Sentinal city as Trinity and himself were flying towards it (just befor trinity Dies)
 
I absolutely loved the first Matrix; the other two movies were good, but nothing like the first film.

I don’t know, the first one left you with the impression of Neo pretty much becoming omnipotent. Then, in the second movie it was as if he wasn’t and yes, I understand the whole agent Smith scenario. I just didn’t the idea that he became his equal since Smith is after all, sill a program.

 Anyway, I loved the original movie as well as the Animatrix. I’m not that in to anime, but I loved every single sequence in this collection, especially Final Flight of the Osiris.
