leveling up hp without bhpl - FFX

if a character has 9999 hp, and im working on getting break hp limit, should i stop moving them on the grid, or will all the hp power ups past 9999 reflect in my hp once i get the bhpl? thanks.

I'm positive that your HP will catch up with you once you actually get the Break HP Limit ability.

The HP nodes you activate will add onto your total Health Points after acquiring the Break HP Limit ability, so there's no need for caution when approaching such a node on the spheregrid. Naturally, the same applies for MP.

Break HP Limit ability is a waste of an armour slot, since you can always predict, avoid or prevent any attack that hits all characters and breaks the damage limit.
