Anyone notice how starting from FFX that the characters don't have last names? why do you think they did this?

It was probably just the nature of their world. Just as we believe that it's normal for people to have last names, it's normal for them to believe that one name is normal... Also, their world isn't very populated or connected. They wouldn't need last names to differentiate between two characters.

Characters didn't have last names from FFI to FFIII apart from Ricard Highwind.
Some in FFXII do have last names.
Note: If you haven't played FFXII then their is possibly spoilers.

The whole...no surname thing did go with FFX. It bugged me a little that I never found out what their last names were, but it didn't really matter.

FFII (Well, just Ricard) FFIV, FFV, FFVI and FFIX had last names aswell.
I would've liked to know what the last names were in X. haha. Tidus Clearwater? xD. Yuna Holyja? haha.
Yeah it did kinda bug me how the characters in FFX didn't have surnames..and it bugged me how only a few of the ones in XII did.

yeah it must be hard to find a good name and last name for all of the characters, especially after 12 final fantasies, i bet the names in FFXIII are gonna be so bad...it seems like all the good ones are already taken up.
