Lame Protagonists.

I searched and didn't find a thread like this. And I'm aware that there's a most hated gaming character thread but this thread's not exactly the same.

This isn't a character hate thread. This thread is about main protagonists that try to be awesome and are just stupid. But laughably stupid. You don't exactly have to hate the character.

One is Leon S. Kennedy (Resident Evil 4). Here's a perfect example. He's so corny. And bland. He pulls every cliche' possible. From the offering to buy a guy a beer at the end of the mission and then having his buddy get killed, to just pulling out the shittiest of one liners. One piece of dialogue that always made me laugh was:

Saddler: "Perhaps you are disillusioned with overconfidence just because you killed my small-time subordinate."
Leon: "Saddler, YOU'RE small time."

Whoa! Ease up on him Leon. Damn. Seriously, that's pathetic. That's like someone calling you a pitiful, worthless, go nowhere, maggot and you respond by saying "Yeah, well you're... nowhere." *sigh* Sad.

Another, and one that I'm personally surprised so many people love, is Dante from the Devil May Cry series. This dude's an obnoxious ass. I've not heard one single actually good remark come out of this dude's mouth since the beginning of the series. Everything he says that's supposed to be clever just completely misses the mark. I've said it before and I'll stand by it: The only point he was EVER cool was in Devil May Cry 2. He barely said anything. And that's it. He doesn't need to. He just goes in and does the fucking job. None of this trying to be tough bullshit. And I could not stand him in Devil May Cry 3. He just would not shut up. And again, his one liners sucked. Bad. So far, almost every person I've talked to has bitched about the reboot they're doing where they're going to redesign Dante. I say sweet.

And the last one I'm going to list for now is Sora from the Kingdom Hearts series. Now, I actually love Sora. But honestly he's a fucking dork. But in a lovable way. And the only real reason he's that way is because he's partly a Disney character. Sadly, he's smartass remarks are better than Leon's and Dante's. But I don't know if it's his appearance or those twig arms, but you just can't take him seriously when he says something "tough". That's all I got on him. Like I said, this isn't a character hate thread because obviously I like Sora.

Vaan (FF12) He starts off kind of cool but quickly turns into a big whiner. When they even finally start showing him maturing, he comes out and says something stupid. (Think the viera villiage)

Tidus: Ok I like Tidus, but like Sora, he's a dork and very corny.

I slap you for insulting Dante.

But I will concede that not all characters appeal to everyone. Dante is that particular kind of character where you either love him or hate him. I like the snark smartass cool way he goes about things. But some people don't, and that's fine too.

In any case, CS, you basically took the words out of my mouth in regards to Leon. He started out okay, actually -- at first, he was just a rookie cop with shitloads of BAD LUCK. I felt sorry for the guy. Now, the character is.... a cardboard pizza with absolutely no flavor. A mish-mash of "cool things to say and do" that are slapped together so terribly it makes me wince. I hope he dies soon; watching him cavort across the screen like he's some BA ass-kicking mo-fo on campus is getting to be painful.

The great and fiery power of my ultimate wrath, however, must be channeled to Tidus, from FFX.

I hate this bitch. He's annoying. He says stupid things and acts even more stupidly. He's been wearing the same clothes since he was 12. Idiot! Imbecile! Bloated tick upon the face of the earth, begone! I don't know how anyone can possibly like this dork. He's so overdone and incredibly incompetent and idiotic it's actually painful to watch him converse. He is the epitome, the alpha and the omega, of LAME. I greatly enjoyed the ending of FFX. I love it more every time I watch it. >)

Edge Maverick (Star Ocean: The Last Hope) was a pretty lame protagonist, but that's not really saying a lot about the game... the highlight of the game was myuria's breasts and edge seeing reimi naked (but of course we didnt) I just don't seem to recall anything memorable about him.

Mitsuru Kirijo (Persona 3) honestly, shes a hot character. But I just find her character to be very unrealistic and a swift kick to the nads when she is dealing with some despair and suddenly getting slapped cures her depression.

maybe i should just start asking people to slap me so i wont have to be sad about dead people anymore. That event, for me, singlehandely shits all over her otherwise uninteresting personality.

i mean i know its a very anime based game, but that's just retarded. You can't cure depression by smacking someone in the fucking face and calling them a moron.

Adell (Disgaea 2) granted, pretty much all Disgaea characters are airheads and have about as much personality as a rock with a face drawn on it, but he just wasnt as amusing as his predecessors were and he was very cringe-worthy.

tink was a better character than adell "You zink you can push me aside and have her all to yourself, eh! Not on my watch, Monsieur Napolean Bonerhard!"

Wakka (Final Fantasy X) honestly, hes just a frustrating character for me to accept on a personal level. At some points in the game, it just feels like he has a very weak resolve and isn't responsible enough to fulfill the role he's taken.
