LADY GAGA IS TRASH...

Just to throw in a few facts which would contradict a few of Ohri-Jin's' points in their arguments...

1) Pop/Club music wasn't a hit when she originated. The hit scene was in hip-hop influenced pop. She actually had to stand her ground with her record label to release a heavily dance influenced album as they didn't believe it would be successful as there wasn't much, if any, of it in the charts.

2) She isn't manufactured. Yes, she has a lot of help in starting up that other artists do not have, such as advertising and a shedload of cash, but that doesn't mean they dictated her direction. Again, she had to fight for the direction she took. Believe it or not, her record label didn't even want her to release Bad Romance as a single because they didn't believe it was commercial enough. It wasn't until that single blew up that they finally loosened her reigns and trusted her to take the lead.

3) She does love the music. She has been making music and writing songs since she was six years old. She moved out of her family home where she lived comfortably and lived in squalor just to pursue her dream of making music. That doesn't sound like somebody who doesn't care about it to me.

All of the things I have stated have multiple sources. If you're really interested you can find them pretty easily, I'd say.

Overall, I dislike her too, but I'll elaborate:

See, Stefani (her real name) has amazing talent and a great singing voice. I saw an older video on youtube of her at a piano recital playing her own 2 original songs and I gotta tell ya, I really liked how she was in that video. She sang great, she looked pretty and plays the piano like a pro.

But I really dislike her as Lady Gaga, because I feel she's wasting her awesome talent (as a pianist, singer and songwriter) on generic pop music that has been heard in one way or another over 9000 times. Yes, her pop music has some originality, but I personally feel she shone best when she used to perform like she did in that youtube video. Ontop of all this, she only comes off to me as slutty and gaudy, and she doesn't even look pretty anymore, imo. I mean, who wears nothing BUT pasties and fishnets at a Lolapalooza, dancing virtually nude in front of a large crowd?? I mean, srsly.

She just comes off to me like some robotic, plastic doll with incredibly gaudy and outlandish clothes.

I admit, I do like a few of her songs, but mainly for beat and dancing. I used to be a fan of her too but I just ended up losing interest because she started to be real slutty and I don't like how she prances around as a feminist.

To be downright blunt, I just think changing herself into Lady Gaga destroyed her. It's good that she started from the ground up and loves what she does, but, I guess I'm just not gonna like her as Lady Gaga. So that's my say on the matter.

How is she real slutty? When did nudity make you a slut? When talking about sex make you a slut? I hate when people say that. It's like, she's not fucking her back up dances on stage for you to watch, she's not a slut. It's like calling Madonna a slut. Why? Because she embraced sex, and treated it like it wasn't dirty? What's so bad about that?

But I love the double standard, because it's so true, when a guy talks about what how many girls he gets it's all cool, but when a girl does the same, and treats sex like what it is, sex, and not some dirty word, she's a whore or a slut. It's the same thing people say about Sex and The City, they're all sluts because they dared to treat sex like men have for years.

Sex isn't dirty. It's human nature. She's not a slut because she talks about it, or shows a little skin. When she starts having orgies on stage, then you can call her that.

I'm not saying sex is dirty, I just mean, who srsly walks around in nothing but pasties and fishnets at a Lolapalooza? I mean really?? It's the way she presents herself and the fact that she claims to love the male culture, when I honestly doubt she even understands men at all. This is just how I feel on the matter and I meant no offense to anyone.

There is music, and then there is entertainment. Lady GaGa falls into the latter of the two. Music is something that taps into your emotions and makes you feel. It brings inspiration to the surface and makes you question things. Entertainment is quite the opposite. They can go together in some cases, but in Lady Gaga's case, they are quite different entity's.

More people are into the club scene than ever before. Dance music is obscenely popular right now. No one wants to hear slow, inspiring, meaningful music when you're out dancing at a club. If I heard Thrice or something I would probably want to sit and listen. I respect the entertainment aspect, even if it doesn't necessarily entertain me.

But in all honesty, what she creates isn't music in the artistic sense. I think her calling herself an artist is like calling big-mac a gourmet meal.

So I'd like to clarify something in your statement that I'm not sure about.

Are you saying that dance music can't be artistic, or that something has to be slow to be inspiring? I'm sorry but that's just not true. I can think of a bunch of songs that you could dance to or hear in a club that are inspired and meaningful, just because you can move your body to something doesn't make it shallow.

And Lady Gaga is an artist, because she makes music, which is an art form. She doesn't make masterpieces but it's still art. Just because you don't understand or appreciate it, or even you do, it doesn't make it more or less art. I mean....what is art?

It's a generic catch all term for things that pertain to everything from literature to music to visual art.

Just because something's art doesn't mean you appreciate it. I don't appreciate or find splatters of paint on the wall particular deep or meaningful but it is still art.

Art is perceived differently with each individual. And each individual has their own opinion, and mine is that what Lady GaGa creates isn't art. I am talking about the top forty. Which is show business. There are few actual bands that get to sell out arenas and perform like the overnight top forty teen idol bull-shit that is spewed at us on a relentless day-to-day basis.

This is like saying the corporate companies that are destroying the earth and promoting consumerism are a piece of art..

I have no problem with dancing. Or the music that makes us want to move. It can make us happy, excited, and inspire us to be happy, but it doesn't make me think, or feel depth. I have a lot more respect for a song that can bring me to tears rather than make me smile. The Lonely Islands song, I just Had Sex makes me laugh, but that doesn't make it art. I have heard a lot of contemporary dance music that is beautiful, and inspiring.

Plainly said, if it makes you guedo fist pump, it's not art.

One. Some so called "serious" musicians have had top 40 hits, so I suppose that means that nothing they EVER do is art?

Two. Webster defines art as "produced as an artistic effort or for decorative purposes". Therefore the fact that Gaga considers her music an artistic effort makes it art by the global definition of the world, which is all we can debate, because our personal opinions of what art is don't matter here. I may not consider everything Nine Inch Nails does as art, but my boyfriend does, and it is made for that purpose so it IS art, whether I think so or not.

Three. I'm sorry but I have no clue what your racial stereotype at the end even means.

Personal opinions are everything. It's just a matter of accepting them or falling into bigotry. Opinions define people. I have accepted your opinion, I'm just giving more points to fuel my own.

And I did mention that there are a few bands that ascend to the same status, did I not? Bands like Muse, who actually worked for a decade to get to where they are. Art is subjective, we can agree on that, but I don't understand how something meaningless and stupid can be considered art. I'm talking about true artistic expression, not arts and crafts.

Guedo is from Jersey Shore. Watch an episode and you'll understand why I sunk my teeth into it.

So someone who watches Jersey Shore is telling me about art? That's ironic. :wacky:

Muse doesn't make art, they make pretentious "music" that sounds like someone misusing a synth. But they intend it to be art, so it is, regardless of what I think about it. I am smart enough to know that if there is a person who can definitely define art, it's not me. I find Muse to be meaningless and stupid, so I guess it's not art by your manner of thinking, regardless of what the band or you thinks.

Ha-ha. And you think Lady GaGa isn't pretentious? Art is defined by what every individual makes it out to be. As you yourself have demonstrated in your earlier post. Art has different meaning and is triggered differently with each of us. Clearly you're on a different planet than I am entirely.

It's just my opinion, relax. This isn't youtube.

And if you pay attention, I was taking a dig at Jersey Shore. You find irony amusing? Take a glance at your username.

:lew: I choose my username, I don't even have to glance at it.

The point is that art as an objective encompasses everything whatever we think. We can't debate subjective things because they are opinion based.

It doesn't matter what planet we are on. Art is art. The worth of the art is what we are debating.

I don't really care for her in all honesty, some of her songs can be catchy at best but she's not someone I listen to on a regular basis. She's certainly an odd ball and why I think there are much better mainstream pop artists out there both vocally and personality wise (I'm not a fan of her weird antics), at the end of the day her cd/single sales and amount of number ones she has as well as the sheer size of her fanbase speak for themselves.
