Is Ashe a normal character?

I bought just the game FF XII because i thought that there are great characters. Now i have watched the intro and everyone interesting seems to be dead. I always thought that Ashe is a normal character but now in the intro they say that she has killed herself.

So was there just a mistranslatement in the intro or isn´t Princess Ashe a normal character in the game?

There's no mistranslations - either play on and find out for yourself or cast your eye over my brief spoiler there

No she's not dead, she just faked her own suicide, she will be back later as a guest character, til she eventually joins your party

She faked her death for reasons you'll discover later. You DO get her as a character... though, Imo, she's not all that great and I really don't like her

I was confused at first as well though, tbh.
