So we all have the ability to fully enjoy FF games from the past even today with games being remade on the PS1, PS2, DS, GBA, and all that jazz. But with FFXI being an online only game, at the moment, where do you see the popularity of this game being 10 years from now? Do you see any transformation to an offline version so that people can play it independently aside from the MMORPG players around the world?

Myself, I would like to see an offline version for the fact that I do not game online and the monthly payments blow ass if I don't play that much, but for real, I'd like to see some form of off-lineness in the future.

Yeah, I'd like to see that as well. I don't know what the story is about, or who are the main characters (if there's even one) but it'd be splendid if SE decides to pull an offline-FFXI.

10 years from now i'd say all servers will be one and max will be around 5000 people playing. the fact that accounts are being band almost monthly and no one wants to start all over.

this game is simply a stunt to make a jump to online gaming, it's an MMO where you are an adventurer, instead of a legendary hero like in other FF's, it has nothing to do with the classic games, the only connection they have are
attributes
combat system
spells and abilities
graphic style

and a few other thing that have nothing to do with the stories of FF

it's just like WoW, a world where wonderous things happen and many adventurers group up to defeat a greater evil, instead of 1 certain person gets a few people to group up with and kill 1 major enemy and becomes a legendary hero for example...

just a bunch of random adventurers who help eachother without any special story or connection through eachother...

(though WoW has now changed this also and has added ranks that only 1 person can have and that person is a server's legendary hero like the scarab lord who has opened the gates to an instance now)

Final Fantasy XI could not be played offline without completely changing every single aspect to the game; the same as any other MMORPG. The game was designed so that you could play your favorite RPG series with other Final Fantasy fans.

I disagree with Raptorg as Final Fantasy XI is very similar to the single-player games. The game has every single aspect of character, quest, monsters, summons, etc.. However, the biggest difference to note is that it's online and you are required to play with other people in order to accomplish your tasks. All at the same time, it's an online game so it will never be the same as an offline game.

In any case, the popularity will die down. I don't see it happening any time soon as they've already said that they've got plans for another expansion soon. When someone mentioned that all of the accounts are getting banned, what they failed to realize was that the accounts that are getting banned are either gil farmers, or people who cheat on a regular basis. Ten years? I don't know. Will the game still be popular in three years or so? Yeah, I think so. There's far too much that the game has to offer for people to get bored of it, especially with as much new content as they release.

the only real hero in this game is you, you can pick 1 of 5 races, and leap thru the ranks of your nation.. right now i'm rank 10 for San d'Oria, and that is the best rank in the game.. <so far>, I dont know why ppl that play WoW keep bad mouthing FFXI, since most of em have hardly played it.. I could say several bad things bout WoW, like how Cartoonish it is, and the playstyle is flawed beyond belief.. but that is what i've heard from ppl that have played it and was hated it, or ppl that play it and FFXI..

I cant see FFXI being very popular in 10 years, hell i cant see WoW being popular in 10 years either.. there will prolly be a next gen MMORG that will be released for Ps3 or Ps4 or even the PC in those years and ppl will prolly stop playing FFXI and WoW

Vanguard: Saga of Heroes is expected to be the next most-popular MMORPG. The game itself is awesome, but it's definitely taking a long time to get used to. I'd still prefer the Final Fantasy XI gameplay over it.

GuardianAngel, your first sentence almost sounded like something you'd read off the box. Haha. =P

Expected by whom? I expect it will fail. People don't want EQesque MMOs anymore, the masses want the lewt spoon fed to them. It's the reason WoW is so popular, which sucks, because I find it an incredibly enjoyable game, even without the phat lewt, as it were. VG was horrible in beta, and unless some major improvements were made after the launch, it will fail as did EQ2.

FFXI offline? Not possible, unless you take years upon years to solo grind to 75, and even then you never kill any of the Gods, none of the missions that require parties, man the list never ends, so I won't go farther...
