I'm getting a new laptop! Software Help?

I'm getting a Acer Aspire 7735z with windows Vista, Its a 2009 model xD I know I'm cheap and old, don't remind me. I'm an advid writer, and I use Microsoft office word 2007 for my Windows xp professional desktop. I was looking to use the same software for my Acer Aspire...but, I don't have the software disc or anything to transfer over :[ I was wondering how much would a new office word cost? I'm looking for the cheapest price and a good deal for my new Laptop? Oh and I was also wondering if I have a Office word doct, and I switched to lets say Office word 2010 would the doct be readable on the new Office word? Or it'd only be readable with Office word 2007? If anyone has knowledge for these sort of things plz reply!

Your best bet would be ebay. Brand new stuff like word are ridiculously priced because Microsoft can get away with charging this amount to companies who have no choice but to buy licenses.

On the other hand have you tried openoffice - a free alternative?

Or you could get student discounts if you're from the UK. Possibly outside of the UK too...if you're a student. I dunno .
