The PSN release of VII has been really high selling, so I figure a lot of people are playing it for the first time. If there's anyone like that here, or who has played it for the first time in the last couple of years: what do you think?

Most of us look at the game with a lot of nostalgia, so I'm just curious about how it looks without that.

To be honest, I could never get into it. I borrowed my brother's PS1 copy, and it failed to impress me the way FF IV and VI did the first time I played them. To be honest, I enjoyed Final Fantasy II(of all the the games in the series) more than I did VII.

I loved VIII and IX, so I'm not sure what killed VII for me. It just seemed to be lacking the elements that made the other games in the series so enjoyable.

I got the PSN FF7 right when it came out. Man did it feel awesome. FF7 in the palm of my hands and to take wherever (road trips, short trips, etc). At first, I was sooo used to the PS3 graphics, it was funny to see how 1997 graphics looked liked. First time I played it, it was amusing because I just ended FF7 CC.

The first time I played it was a little over a year ago and to be honest there was no real 'wow' factor for me. This was right after I finished X for the first time and I found X far more enjoyable. Maybe the fact that I naturally compared VII to X had an influence on my attitude towards VII. But the point is that I didn't really enjoy VII as much as I thought I would. It's a good game, but not one of my favourites.

I've said it before, and I'm going to say it again: the first time I played FFVII was in 2006 (so there's no big 'nostalgia factor' for me regarding this game), and even with the ridiculous outdated graphics, I absolutely loved it. Reason? The story and the thematics (gameplay and sidequests were fun as hell too). And Cloud, he is by far my favorite FF main character along with Terra. No other FF affected me as much as VII, no other FF immersed me as much as VII. Yes, I "wow'ed". I usually don't care how badly a game aged graphics-wise, as long as it has an appealing and well-thought story that can make me stop and think, and a fun gameplay as well. FFVII did that, Xenogears did that, and that's why both are my favorite rpgs even after playing a handful of recent PS2 rpgs.

i bought VII on PSN a few months ago after finishing X and Everyone i know who's played the series told me VII is their favourite! but i just cannot seem to sit through it, i managed to escape midgar but somebody saved over it and now i cannot seem to start it again which is a shame because ive got a basic idea of the story and i loved AC!

i know i need to complete the game before i can have a true opinion so ill have to try again at some point.

i just started playing it for the first time (i'm really in the beginning, my characters are around level 7-9 i think?) ive only played for a few hours but so far i really really like it. i already have a favourite character (guess who haha) and i'm really enjoying the story. the graphics for the characters is bad but the rest is good, my first final fantasy was FF6 and i've only played that and FF10 and FF10-2, so i've seen worse :P and the music is nice! i love it ^^

it just feels a little boring that everyone else already played it many times before and this is my first time so i don't have anyone to talk with about it.

I don't think the more recent FF7 gamers would see it as good as the ones who played it years ago. Graphics have vastly improved since then and even for a PS1 game the graphics can easily put newer gamers off. If your not as shallow and can get past the dated style and really appreciate the game for what it is then you should love it.

You shouldn't feel as though you've missed out and it's boring now because everyone else has played it. Your playing it now so just enjoy it! I know there are a lot of people that would like to be able re-play it again for the first time. At least you finally got the game!

Nostalgia really makes something more special though. In a few years the newer gamers will look at it the same way probably so. :P

I've had the PSN version for about 3 weeks
I forgot how good it was!!
+ I wanted to play it again after I've played Crisis Core
