It's pretty self-explanatory. I played the first, and loved it. I truly thought it was amazing. But I got the Xbox 360, moved on from PS2 and the rest is history. So, considering how many spinoffs there have been; am I missing out? I recently started playing PS2 again and am contemplating buying KHII and such and such. Recommendations? What did I miss? Blah blah blah.

Why should having an XBOX 360 prevent you from playing your PS2 anymore?

As a KH fan this probably sounds bias, but I can easily say that yes you are missing out on a whole lot.

For one thing, Kingdom Hearts II is a direct sequel that continues Sora's story from KH1. You can't tell me the end of KH1 was a conclusive ending, with how Sora sets off to find Riku and the King and doesn't instead go back to the island. If you're only going to play just one more KH game, make it KH2. Like I said, it continues the story and actually has a decent conclusive ending.

However, I reccommend you also give Chain of Memories a try. Back in December a 3D PS2 version of the GBA game was released for North America known as Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories in case you don't want to play somehting with 2D graphics. Basically, it's like KH 1.5. It takes place between KH1 and KH2, and you can actually play from Riku's POV after playing through Sora's to get a bigger picture of the story. CoM also kind of sets up for KH2, so it's not just a simple filler that you can ignore.

And of course there are the upcoming games as well.

Birth by Sleep is a prequel taking place 9 (or is it 10..?) years before KH1 that is said to put the whole KH story in motion.

358/2 Days is about Roxas' (he's from KH2 in case you didn't know) story while he was in the Organization. From the time he came into being to the part when he and Riku fight (i.e. Deep Dive).

There's also Coded which was already released but it's a mobile game only within Japan, so I dunno much about it aside from that you're kind of playing through KH1 again, even though the game takes place after KH2, or something X_x

So basically, yeah, play KH2 and Re:CoM since they're both for the PS2 and they tell the majority of the story thus far.

Thanks!

I got caught up in new games and completely forgot I had a PS2. I also felt I had no obligation to play it, even though I realize now that PS2 and N64 probably have much better games than modern games.

Are 385/2 Days and Birth by Sleep for PS2?

So damn, I guess the answer is: YES, YOU MISSED ON A SHITLOAD OF STORY, BRO.

Well, I guess I got to get back on it. I was worried I was missing out on so much when seeing the previews for the games while I was preoccupied with the 360.

Is KHII better than the original?

358/2 days is for the Nintendo DS and Birth by Sleep (can't wait for this one!) is for the PSP. Cheap of them to do but I am still looking forward to it.

Definitely play KH2 it was amzing!

385/2 Days is for the DS and Birth by Sleep is for the PSP; yeah, if I hadn't bought both systems already this would've pissed me off a bit :P

I personally enjoyed KH2 more than KH1 because it has a darker in-depth story (to me anyways *shrugs*), better graphics, and a conclusive ending. Still love KH1, but I've played KH2 more times already because it was really addictive to me >_>

KH2 is also arguably easier than KH1, which I have to agree with it. You pretty much just smashing the X button and pressing Triangle for the new reaction commands inputted into the gameplay.

Wow. That must be pretty freaking easy. Because the first was very easy. Addicting, but easy.

By the way, I was little when I played it so i don't remember. But did Sora and the main character who's a girl have a romance thing? Or were they just friends? I can't remember.

There are difficulty settings too though, I bet it would be way harder is you played it on..well...hard.

It definitely had mroe replay value too. I have gone back just to max out my drives and have ben...attempting..to beat sephiroth even after finishing the game two years ago.

Not a like..REAL..thing..like the..beginings of a thing. They were both around 25 and had been friends for like ever..so I think they were jsut starting to realize..imo anyway, Riku seemes to feel left out...

If you don't remember much I would suggest replaying before you tackle II, just as a refresher

Um, well, it's implied that there's some romantic feelings between the two. There's no out right "I love you" between them, but I think that gamers can understand that there's something mutual there between Sora and Kairi. In CoM especially you see Kairi's importance to Sora a lot more clearly.

But over-all the KH series is more a story about the love of friends rather than romantic love. So yeah, while Sora cares about Kairi and vice versa, there are also a lot of scenes that shows he cares for his best friend Riku, and vice versa.

EDIT: Stop ninja-ing me Sylvanius :gasp:

Well, even on Proud Mode, your strategy of fighting enemies isn't that different; I leveled up more, but that's pretty much what varied for me

And true, it was kind of a love triangle thing back in KH1 since Riku also desired Kairi and he did feel left out from Sora and Kairi; Kairi herself sort of distances herself from Riku, but that ends at KH1. Riku only really cares about wanting to help Sora, and Kairi ironically wants Riku to be with them. And, well, Sora cares about both of them, so...

I don't think a three-way relationship is out of the question :monster:

For the record: Sora and Kairi were 14 in KH1, Riku 15 so I guess their ages could say that deep romantic love isn't something their puny kiddy minds could comprehend that well; and the game is rated 10+, so maybe romance it too adult of a content then xD

What is the span of time between the first and second?

And if I recall, wasn't Riku a bad guy in KHI? I forgot what happened, but he was temporarily a confused bad guy, correct?

There's a year between KH1 and KH2.

And yeah, Riku is sort of the antagonist of KH1, although it's actually "Ansem" whose the real bad guy after he takes over Riku's body at Hollow Bastion.

Although anti-hero makes more sense for Riku, especially since he uses the power of darkness (spoiler, but he's referred to as the "hero of darkness" in Re:CoM) where as Sora uses the power of light.

But srsly, after KH1, Riku's a real swell guy =D

Edit: A really sexy guy

If you want to understand that year in between the games well though I would suggest playing CoM...because that way, even though they explain what happened there in KHII, you get to see EVERYTHING that happened...not just the explanation. It may not be the most fun of games (I got stuck for like..8 hours trying to get the stupid card to get into one of the rooms for one of the last bosses) it's worth it for the story.

EDIT: Stop ninja-ing me Sylvanius :gasp:

I can't help it, my ninja skills are uncontrollable.

KH3 could have some VERY interesting scenes...:mandi:

Sure you are missing out. How much you are missing out...well...I did not find IIs story as compelling as I. Perhaps I would have had I played CoM. The worlds are great, if a bit redundant, and the gameplay is exciting, and there is plenty to do. But, as happens sometimes, in my opinion the second simply could not live up to the standard set by the original.

buy it, go on, you'll love it. the others told what had hapened. I played both of 'em. they where both brilliant, but #2 had bunches of action. and the story was great. you have alot more options in the battle system. play it, you'll love it.

Personally KH was better than KHII to me, but I'd say you're missing out if you don't play KHII. You could possibly give KH:CoM a miss and read up on the storyline on the internet somewhere and a fair bit of CoM is summed up in KHII but if you don't play KHII then you're basically missing out the second half of the story and I doubt that KH:358/2 Days will make much sense if you don't play KHII, and neither will KHIII methinks.

So play KHII at the very least :-)

I actually bought Kingdom Hearts II before I and I thought I was missing out. Lol.
But after my opinion. II > I in any way. So you should get it. The game itself, is more entertaining.

I myself only played "part" of KHI, and I honestly can only remember like the Alice in Wonderland level. I hardly remember anything about the plot, and like I said, I don't even think I finished it.

I did however play all the way through KHII when it came out. I hardly missed out on any of the plot because much was explain of what happened before, and this story was so easy to follow along with from beginning to end.

You're not missing much if KHI's the only one you've played, but I think you'll love KHII once you get into it.
