I read that many people here replay FF games.
I am the type who doesn't like replaying, but I curious about how other people replay.

So a few questions I have in mind about replaying are:

1) Do you set specific goal/s? (Like reaching level 99, completeing all side quests, breaking time record and etc)

2) Do you use a guide/walkthrough? Or you spend hours on searching for side quests, rare items and the like?

3) Do you level up more in order to make the replay easier?

4) Do you customize the party the same way you did the first time?
Or you try some different combinations each time?

5) Do you skip FMVs/Cut Scenes if you can? Or you watch everything again?

6) Which time you enjoy more? The first time you play or when you replay?

It depends. I do enjoy doing side-quests if I haven't completed them on a previous play-through... but I don't like doing time challenges and the like. I prefer to take my time and stuff.

2) Do you use a guide/walkthrough? Or you spend hours on searching for side quests, rare items and the like?

I dislike using walkthroughs. A lot. So I search for things that I want. If I can't find it after a long time, I may eventually cave and look on the internet for my answers...

3) Do you level up more in order to make the replay easier?

On my first playthroughs, I usually run away from lots of encounters. I never know why... probably because I was in a rush to see how the story progressed. In a replay, I don't run around looking for enemies, but I try to defeat all that I come across.

4) Do you customize the party the same way you did the first time?
Or you try some different combinations each time?

Depends. You grow attached to certain characters having certain abilities... but I do try my best to mix it up so it isn't exactly like my first playthrough.

5) Do you skip FMVs/Cut Scenes if you can? Or you watch everything again?

If I haven't played through it in a while, I watch the scenes. If I've played it recently, I skip them if possible.

6) Which time you enjoy more? The first time you play or when you replay?

The first time is always my favourite.

If I choose to replay it, it's solely down to wanting to 100%, all the challenges and stuff and speed runs don't really bother me whatsoever.
2) Do you use a guide/walkthrough? Or you spend hours on searching for side quests, rare items and the like?
It depends on the game, I have guides for FFIII and FFXII but the only reason I bought the guide was that you can tell by the thickness of it that FFXII was going to be a huge game with lots of stuff that would take hours finding. All being said, I only use a guide on the second playthrough.
3) Do you level up more in order to make the replay easier?
Not really, I just play through a replay how I'd play through the first time of playing :ness:
4) Do you customize the party the same way you did the first time?

Same.
5) Do you skip FMVs/Cut Scenes if you can? Or you watch everything again?
I watch everything again just to take everything in incase I missed something the first time round, plus the cutscenes probably make the replay less boring D:
6) Which time you enjoy more? The first time you play or when you replay?
First time, easily. The first time of playing a Final Fantasy title, or any RPG for that matter is nearly always 100x better the first time round because you don't know what to expect how the characters/storyline are going to work out. Replays however, you know all that so it's not as enjoyable >_>

1) Do you set specific goal/s (Like reaching level 99, completeing all side quests, breaking time record and etc)?
- It depends. Sometimes I attempt to get to the max level but usually I try to complete all the side quests.

2) Do you use a guide/walkthrough? Or you spend hours on searching for side quests, rare items and the like?
- I almost always use a walkthrough for my second playthrough so that I can complete the game in its entirety. If I go for any more than two playthroughs I do everything without a walkthrough and finish quickly as possible.

3) Do you level up more in order to make the replay easier?

- Yes. I'm usually way over-leveled on other playthroughs.

4) Do you customize the party the same way you did the first time? Or you try some different combinations each time?

- I change it up. For instance, take FFXII. If I typically use guns with Balthier, I'll perhaps use something random, like hand-bombs. I like to change how I play the game to keep me interested.

5) Do you skip FMVs/Cut Scenes if you can? Or you watch everything again?
- Depends. If I like the scene or forget them a little, I'll watch. Otherwise, I usually skip through them.

6) Which time you enjoy more? The first time you play or when you replay?

- First. I like other playthroughs as well but the first time is always the best. The "newness" of the game during the first playthrough is always the most interesting to me. I certainly enjoy most of my second playthroughs too but it doesn't compare to the first.

1) Do you set specific goal/s? (Like reaching level 99, completeing all side quests, breaking time record and etc)

jus completeing everything, not really that determined to reach 99

2) Do you use a guide/walkthrough? Or you spend hours on searching for side quests, rare items and the like?

ya most of the time

3) Do you level up more in order to make the replay easier?

usually do hav a higher lvl, i dont usually try too it jus comes naturally because i no where everything is

4) Do you customize the party the same way you did the first time?
Or you try some different combinations each time?

usually try to change it up a bit, makes it more fun and different

5) Do you skip FMVs/Cut Scenes if you can? Or you watch everything again?

nope only time i did that was in KH2 little mermaid stuff, jus couldnt handle it lol

6) Which time you enjoy more? The first time you play or when you replay?
First time for sure

1) Do you set specific goal/s? (Like reaching level 99, completeing all side quests, breaking time record and etc)

I would say that the goals always stay the same for me. In another way I don't set Goals I set Challenges. Take FFX for instance. I am currently doing a Tidus Only Challenge. In my FFXII I am doing a No Magic Challenge and in my FFII No Weapon Challenge (It is kinda tough when you fight a monster that has High Magic Def and Absorbs Most Elements).

2) Do you use a guide/walkthrough? Or you spend hours on searching for side quests, rare items and the like?

I will not lie, some parts of the game, I do need a quick reminder from the Guide, but with a Replay, you know what to do most of the time.

3) Do you level up more in order to make the replay easier?

In the challenge respects, the anwser is yes. It makes the Challenge easier (Or harder, Stupid Great Malboro!).

4) Do you customize the party the same way you did the first time?
Or you try some different combinations each time?

I like to change it every playthrough. With or Without a Challenge. One time I did FF10 with Lulu, Auron and Tidus, Then it was Rikku, Yuna and Wakka then I did Lulu, Rikku and Yuna (all girl team xD).

5) Do you skip FMVs/Cut Scenes if you can? Or you watch everything again?

I watch them all again. Its nice to see them to refresh your memory of the story. Sometimes once you playthrough once you see how the story really unfolds with the earlier FMVs/Cut Scenes.

6) Which time you enjoy more? The first time you play or when you replay?

I have to say the First time is the best time, as in your eyes its a brand new game :D.

Well I'm not gonna answer every question individually, lol. But in a nutshell, it's like watching a movie or something I guess, I like to go through the story line again and yeah I do like mixing things up such as seeing how high I can level up before reaching a certain part of the game, or maybe there was something I missed like in FFVIII how you have to steal the GFs or even the cards. In FFIX I like to go through and see if I can collect all the Tetra Master cards. In VII I went through and did the no materia challenge, and the Final Fantasy series never gets old to me :p

Q. Do you set specific goal/s? (Like reaching level 99, completing all side quests, breaking time record and etc)

A. My only real goal is to enjoy the games plot again. That's why I play it in the first place. Sometimes I'll spend extra time in areas to make sure I didn't miss anything on the first time through, but I don't obsess over it.

Q. Do you use a guide/walkthrough? Or you spend hours on searching for side quests, rare items and the like?

A. That depends on the game! :P
Usually I don't resort to guides or walkthroughs, I generally prefer to figure things out on my own.

Q. Do you level up more in order to make the replay easier?

A. Probably not. I make sure to level up beyond what's necessary for any playthrough, first or revisits. Unless I know beforehand that the game is just plain pathetic difficulty-wise.

Q. Do you customize the party the same way you did the first time?
Or you try some different combination's each time?

A. I might experiment with different party members, but a lot of times my party choice and customization choice will be pretty similar, after all that is what appealed to me in the first playthrough. Unless the game is customizable enough that I couldn't decide the first time and just picked one; then I might switch things up a bit.

Q. Do you skip FMVs/Cut Scenes if you can? Or you watch everything again?

A. I don't skip cutscenes. I replay FF games mostly just for the plot, so why skip it?

Q. Which time you enjoy more? The first time you play or when you replay?

A. That's a difficult question... Again I think it depends on the game though, some games get old after the first playthrough, other don't.

1) Do you set specific goal/s? (Like reaching level 99, completeing all side quests, breaking time record and etc)

I usually try to do this. Usually the first time around you're trying to figure out a few more things and find your way around the place and don't really know the best areas for leveling up etc.

So the second time around you know the game a bit more and can feel more free to level as you please in the areas you know are better than others etc.

I don't really worry about how long I take to complete it though. Time has never been an issue when it comes to games for me.

2) Do you use a guide/walkthrough? Or you spend hours on searching for side quests, rare items and the like?

I usually use a walkthrough to finish the game 100% the second time around and then the third time I try to do it all on my own and see if I can remember everything. XD

3) Do you level up more in order to make the replay easier?

Yeah I do. I found that you don't realise how much you need to level up in order to beat the next boss etc on the first time through. The second play through is easier because you now have that knowledge.

4) Do you customize the party the same way you did the first time?
Or you try some different combinations each time?

I try to do different combinations in order to keep it interesting and get the most out of the game. It's a lot more fun.

5) Do you skip FMVs/Cut Scenes if you can? Or you watch everything again?

Nah I love the FMV's and Cut Scenes. It's like reading your favourite book again. Why cut out half the storyline? So yeah I watch them all over again just as well as I did the first time.

You never know, you may have missed something on the first playthrough that confused you the first time and the second time through you find that there was an important piece of information that you simply misheard etc.

6) Which time you enjoy more? The first time you play or when you replay?

I enjoy it as much as I did the first time as I did the second, third etc times I played it. It's just as interesting the second time as it the first. =)

My thoughts

1) Do you set specific goal/s? (Like reaching level 99, completeing all side quests, breaking time record and etc)

My number 1 goal is to get everything in the game. Then also to level up everyone to the max. I enjoy games where you can get str up items. They allow much longer game time.

2) Do you use a guide/walkthrough? Or you spend hours on searching for side quests, rare items and the like?

The first time I don't use a walkthrough unless I already know I won't play it again. If I like the game though yes second time I will use a guide.

3) Do you level up more in order to make the replay easier?

I think that with the right tactics in a Final Fantasy game you don't need to level up. I go by money more then level. If I have enough money to buy everything in the current shops, I won't level up and proceed. If I don't have3 enough money I will go out and fight until I do.

4) Do you customize the party the same way you did the first time?
Or you try some different combinations each time?

I think that each playthrough you understand the game more, and then start using different stuff. Like materia fusion in crisis core, I started out with just regular materia but I ended up learning to make/use better skills. So yeah my tactics get better and I try different stuff.

5) Do you skip FMVs/Cut Scenes if you can? Or you watch everything again?

Cut scenes use to be cool. Now some of them I wouldn't mind just skipping right past, God Bless X-2.

6) Which time you enjoy more? The first time you play or when you replay?

I enjoy when I have everything I want. Mostly on my second playthrough.

1) Do you set specific goal/s? (Like reaching level 99, completeing all side quests, breaking time record and etc)

Generally speaking no, In RPGs I usually go for a 100%/full clear the first time around, a second playthrough is more for kicks than anything. (Except the MegaTen games. Fuck you for making it impossible to 100% on a first playthrough)

2) Do you use a guide/walkthrough? Or you spend hours on searching for side quests, rare items and the like?
See above.

3) Do you level up more in order to make the replay easier?
No more so then I would normally.

4) Do you customize the party the same way you did the first time?
Or you try some different combinations each time?
I'll switch it up.

5) Do you skip FMVs/Cut Scenes if you can? Or you watch everything again?
Watch it again.

6) Which time you enjoy more? The first time you play or when you replay?
Depends on the game. I enjoyed FFIII more the second time around, but have a hard time bringing myself to replay say VI or VII. Then theres games like Chrono Trigger that I can replay endlessly.

Replaying a FF game to me feels like re-watching a movie or series you really like, only it lasts 40+ hours. ^^

Usually I play again for the story/characters/setting, etc. Once I get to a point where sidequests are available, if I'm in the mood I'll go into it, and lvl up til 100, too. If not I'll go straight to the end boss and finish the game.

As for which run I enjoyed more? The old SNES ones I played when I was a kid, but I really liked them more after I replayed them a year ago. I really disliked X after a second run, VII was meh, but the rest generally liked them even more.

I do check walkthoughs on my 2nd or 3rd run, but usually just to check if I missed a sidequest or rare item.

Simple, I try to complete the game 100%. I also like to try and beat my old time from the previous time I replayed it. This is also a good time that I like to try out new stragities from previous replays. While this does not sound too enjoyable, it is for me and I like the feeling that I finished the game to the fullest extent.
