Haha, so I have a little bit of a dilemma. I usually go in to work at 4am, but tonight we gotta show up at 1am, which means I get to set my alarm for midnight in order to get ready and be there on time. I usually wake up at 3am instead, or 3:30 depending on how much I prepared for the prior night. I guess we're going in early tonight because they'll be taking down our system when the store opens to update it because we're replacing PDTs with a newer device called a PDA (we use em to scan merchandise into shelf locations in our stockroom as we backstock what came off our morning truck).

So my question is this; it's 6pm in this neck of the woods and if I want a good solid 5 hours of sleep I need to go to bed within the hour but I usually don't get tired and head to bed until 10. What methods do you guys use in order to make yourselves sleepy enough to fall asleep early? Right now the only idea coming to my mind is to just get drunk lol.

Get drunk. lol. No.....welll....

So you're West Coast? Awesome. =D

Usually I just try to read on my bed, but if that doesn't work out, I just listen to any music I have on hand until I feel the need to lie down. Then it's just bye bye from there. Either that or you could just lie down and see whether you're going to be able to fall asleep or not.

But if I really can't sleep at all, I just don't sleep at all, so I go online or listen to more music.

Haha, yeah reading might help. Sometimes if I get in bed after work and start reading whatever novel I'm currently reading, I can tend to crash out but not always lol.

Just staying up isn't an option though. We usually come in this early when we've got to handle two truck shipments that morning instead of one. I've "hard-cored" it by just staying awake all day and night, going into work, and just crashing out as soon as I set foot back in my apartment. But that makes for a miserable day at work because i usually just start getting tired right when its time to clock in for work and crashing out soon as I get home won't be an option this time, as I'd requested the next 3 days off to drive 200 miles south to visit some family and was planning to head out after work tommorrow.

How do I force myself to fall asleep? My best bet is a mixed drink or nyquil...or both. When I was growing up, my dad would give me a shot of whiskey at night like when I was sick or even when my teeth hurt, so that I would knock out. ^__^

A shot of whiskey is still a good sleeping aid.

Haha, I'd consider hooking up an IV injection of constant energy drinks and just man it up all night but that's a bad idea when i gotta turn around and drive a couple hundred miles somewhere after work. But aye, drink it is. That was my first thought, and always go with your gut lol. Thanks for the ideas.

I count sheeps in my head. No kidding.

No I'm kidding...although I did try that method once years ago. It didn't work. Whoever thought of that was pretty dumb.

Anyway, I usually just spend late hours here. When the activity dies down, that's when I'll get bored and start falling asleep. Reading is also a good method, as your mind races. That tires me eventually. Or I'll just lay there in bed (lights off) and think about things until I can think no more.

I'm so beat by the end of the day, it just randomly happens wherever I lay down at. Usually it's during class, in church, watching a movie on the couch during Sunday afternoon or late at night at a friends house. Otherwise, I just throw on some music in my CD player or iPod or read a book until I fall asleep.

I used to find it hard falling asleep, but i now found a very easy way to go off into the land of dreams..., i am a massive Pink Floyd fan, so i just listen to the 'Wish You Were Here' album, the first track-'Shine on your Crazy Diamond parts I-V' usually does the job, its about 13 minutes long, ultimate psychadellic chill out....

I fall asleep when I'm actually tired. I don't bother forcing myself to sleep unless I have to wake up early the next day. The best way is just taking sleep pills. Sometimes I just go to sleep late anyways, and later on that day I take a nap, or sleep early at night.

the best way to uhh force yourself to fall asleep would have to be by taking a shower with cold water and then putting VapoRub on your nose, and then to top it off listen to your favorite most 'dreamy' music you have, for me that would be the ff7 original soundtrack

i know this sounds bizarre but it really works! i wouldnt lie to ya :)

Lol… It’s always when I absolutely have to get some sleep, I can’t. Especially if there’s a lot on my mind.

For the most part, I just try to clear my mind, stay away from anything with sugar in it late at night, sometimes I’ll read (this usually doesn’t work for me though).

Either way, I love a good night sleep, but I think we all get acute insomnia from time to time which does suck when it hits.
