Obviously X-2 was a lot less seriouse and mature than X, but i dont think this makes it immature. It was definetley a bit of a shock for me when i first started playing because i was expecting an epic and i ended up with a random sequence of scenarios.

The characters rikku and yuna seemed to go through some sort of reverse maturing. It seemed silly to me but maybe it was actually fitting for them. The original X was filled with depressing tales of sin, everyone had a huge black cloud over their head, even if they laughed it off it would very often become apparant of the terrible situation they (and the world) were in. Now Fast forward to X-2, the eternal calm, if it were me i would want to become as silly as possible. Finally no more huge weight on the world, X-2 is where people stopped caring and started having fun. It just makes sense.

Sometimes it did just seem like being silly for the sake of it though, like rikku constantly bouncing around in the background. And monkey matchmaking?

I definetley liked X's seriouse tone more, but X-2 was a relief aswell. It was a great game but in a different way. People need to give it more of a chance, there is lots of fun to have and actually an interesting story eventually.

I thought X was really nice and X-2 (currently playing) so far is really different. X-2 has story missions that have a difficulty rate and some of em are really hard. X was easy but there were some hard bosses but overall when you know there tactics its easy. X-2 is interesting so far and Im going to continue.

I didn't adapt too well to the changes. I missed the old Rikku... You know, the cute one that wasn't such a whore. I missed Yuna being sweet and innocent. The only character in X-2 that I really enjoyed was Paine and that was because she was the most "normal" of the bunch. She would make fun of the others for being ridiculous, which to me, was fantastic. I still cannot figure out what the developers and story-line creators were THINKING when they decided to turn Brother into a freakish-pig that jumped around like a moron.

Final Fantasy X was such a great game. If X-2 would have kept at least SOME of the same concepts I think I would have enjoyed playing it a lot more. Too many differences and not enough attention-grabbing new things.

The only thing that changed with Rikku was her look. o_o I can't see how you could classify Rikku as a whore. It's not like she was flirting with every guy in Spira or trying to get into their pants, so where do you get the whole "Rikku was such a whore" thing? Also, it's two years later. Rikku's 17 now. Naturally her hair is going to grow longer and her look is going to eventually change. That's obviously what they did with Rikku.

Yuna was still sweet and innocent. Her voice was still as soft and gentle, she still made really adorable body motions like she did in FFX. It's just that she was no longer a summoner and so she was no longer charged with the duty to protect all of Spira like before. That burden was lifted off her shoulders. Also, two years had passed then. Obvious changes were going to happen. Yuna was doing what she wanted to do for once instead of doing what everybody else wanted.

Not to mention, she had a change in style so she wouldn't be bombarded by people all over Spira when she became a sphere hunter. You can watch a video called "Eternal Calm" that explains some of the reason why Yuna's look and personality changed. Yuna was finally able to do what she wanted to do. As for Brother? Again, two years had passed and with him traveling along with Yuna, Rikku and Paine on an airship and doing he sphere hunting thing, well...time changes people in other words.

I think Brother just felt more open than before. Also, I think Brother was supposed to be part of the comedy relief in the game. Anyway, the change of tone is to be expected considering two years had passed since the Eternal Calm began, there's no longer the threat or fear of Sin and Yuna's pursuing her own path and dreams.

I like the game from what Ive played (still have not beaten it yet) and the game plays great but it was embarrassing to even watch some of those cheesy cut scenes. I usually find my self looking away or leaning over with hands to face going WTF? I most definitely would have wished for this game to be of a more serious and darker nature even more so then FFX. The happy and jolly mood of it all was a bit saddening =(

My perception of Rikku being a whore came from remarks from other characters regarding her past experience with other males (IE: Gippal). Not only that but also the style they gave her. Short skirts, bending of the knees to show off a little panty.. things like that. I still like Rikku, I just missed the Rikku from FFX.

Yuna's innocence is still there but it has changed. She has matured. I believe Lulu says it best when meeting with her in Besaid, "I'm not there, so you can spread your wings.". Yuna sure did spread her wings alright. Short-shorts and two guns.

Urban Dictionary had some interesting things to say about Rikku:
"7. Rikku
A Final Fantasy X character who plays the cute, endearing girl role but in Final Fantasy X-2 she becomes a cheap slut.
Rikku FFX: good
Rikku FFX-2: whore
"

I know Urban Dictionary is written by others and not a credible source of information but it is a fairly credible source when it comes to pure opinion. My opinion is shared with many others. To each their own, nonetheless.

The change really caught me off guard at first. Going from FFX to FFX-2, even years later, was a shock just because of the tone change. But as I got into it, I started to understand it a little more. In-game, the characters wanted to have more fun because the burden of Sin wasn't bearing down on them anymore, and the developers obviously wanted to have a little more fun in a world that was created for such a serious game. So, I decided to have fun with it, too. (I need to replay it - I kind of rushed through it the first time.) Plus, it would be kind of repetitive if the characters hadn't changed just a little.

Funny that when there's a change in a character with a mini-skirt and showing a little belly or panty, like Rikku, people call her a cheap slut. Interesting thing is, it was only Gippal that there were possible feelings for there. It's not like Rikku was boning every Al Bhed there was. She wasn't a whore. She wasn't getting paid for sex and throwing her body out to every guy in Spira. Rikku just had a change in look. That's all. Same can be said for Tifa's outfit in FFVII. She has a revealing outfit and you see people throwing words out like "whore, slut" in regards to Tifa all the time, but Tifa's NOT a whore.

Just because a girl has a short skirt and is showing some leg, belly or cleavage they're automatically branded a slut, whore, whatever. I don't think personally that's very fair. As for Yuna? That's exactly what I was trying to say. She's grown up, she's matured. Two years have passed. She doesn't have the burden of being a summoner on her anymore. She's not in the situation she was two years ago when she put all the people of Spira before herself, thinking she was going to her own death. People grow and change. Just because they change their look, doesn't completely change who they are or their personality and it certainly doesn't make them a slut/whore.

Hmm, let me put it this way kindly for you.

If a guy was designed the same way in the game, or just any other game per chance, would you take the same approach to say that he looked slutty and whoring himself out, too?

C'mon, if you've happened to help save Spira from a deadly monster, you're not going to don the same look two years later. Not entirely, anyway. Would you really want to wear the exact same clothes for years? I know I wouldn't. So don't judge any female character by the way they dress, but by their personality.

X-2 had a more light-hearted tone, yet it still had a serious and dark theme with the main story. It also had quite a few serious commentaries on the changing world of Spira as well.

On Rikku... considering that Gippal is the closest guy to her in terms of a relationship on that level, how can she be called a whore? At worst she might be a flirt. Even the implications on what happened before are nothing more than the "she was a tease" line. Considering that many young women in this world run around in skimpy clothes and what simply amounts to a swimsuit like Rikku's clothes, I find it odd that that alone makes Rikku a slut or whore in anyone's eyes.

But then most people are not really good judges of character so maybe I shouldn't be all that surprised.

The tone change was shocking, but, for me at least, it was also welcome. I enjoy being happy and playing happy games, and I enjoyed this one. I like the fact that Square opted against turning Yuna into an uber depreased emo girl, and instead made her something more belivable. Do I think the tone sometimes overdoes it self? Yeah, there's scenes where all the happy makes you wanna scream, but there's scenes in FF7 where all the underlaying themes made me want to tell the people to just shut up and say something that acutally meant what it seemed.

As for Rikku, I think you have to remember the age. She was younger then the others if I remember rightly, and most young girls are boy crazy at those ages. It's not like she's thirty and doing this. You'll allowed to be that way at that age. At absolute worse, she's a tease, as you can't prove she ever slept with any of the men.

I'm glad to know i'm not the only one who enjoyed playing X-2. Not many people seem like as much as FFX and I think people should show more love towards it. I actually thought the change in tone the game was a nice one, and if you think about it, the game was serious at some points.

The change in tone was not all that bad. There's a lot of happy moments and all because Sin is gone so everyone can go on and enjoy their lives to the fullest, but there is some serious moments in the game too. Mostly invovling New Yevon and Youth League and Shuyin (that little bastard lol).
All in all, X-2 was more upbeat and that's what I like =)

I have a major hate on this game, and it'll never go away. Try though I did, I couldn't get my head around Yuna being a pop star. The whole game felt juvenile to me, not to mention kinda sexist with the whole "outfits" system. I came away feeling like I had wasted a good chunk of time, even though I didn't even bother finishing the game. I'm still really glad I bought it used and didn't pay $50 for it new. <_<

Well Rjeso...I did. Imagine how I feel? XD

Actually, its kind of a strange paradox I have with X-2. I can say without hesitation that it is easily the worst Final Fantasy. Well, maybe second worst since FFXI is online and doesn't even feel like a Final Fantasy besides a passerby chocobo.

Despite this, there's something kind of addicting with the game. Maybe it's the upbeat nature not really seen in most/any Final Fantasy's. It had very cringe worthy moments, but parts of it were a lot of fun. Even though I hear next to nothing positive about Leblanc as a character, she made me laugh almost all the time. Her comedy shtick with the other two goons was really great. It did have its moments like when you first see the FMV of...crap. I forgot the giant machines name, that's really bad. Super-Omega Weapon? VEGNAGUN. XD Yeah, that brain fart was real time.

Right. Well the FMV where the group finally sees Vegnagun was downright creepy, it gave me the shivers the first time. Not as intimidating as Sin was, but not too far off. The story was ruined for me in a way with Shuyin and Lenne. I mean, they looked like clones of Tidus and Yuna anyway, it felt like the creators didn't really try all that hard. The Vegnagun thing was working good, but then that stuff came in and it ruined an already 'okay' game.

But this is more about a change in tone, and I did enjoy that. The Final Fantasy version of Charlie's Angels/Spice Girls was nauseating though. As a guy, I felt like I was in the wrong room. To this day, I like to call it the 'Chick Flick of Video Games'. That's what it mostly is really. There isn't much to it that guys would find appealing besides girls in short skirts.

But the upbeat mood and music was nice and kind of fun. Also with the whole mission/sphere hunter thing, I thought the idea was fun. It was a welcome release from the usually overbearing FF story of the world being doomed. I'm just saying it was cool that at least for a time, the world wasn't in any real danger, you weren't doing anything as a team that was going to change the world, and that WAS a welcome release actually. But then Vegnagun and Shuyin came in, so they obviously went back to the norm.

I'm always suprised by the whole sexist dress sphere thing. I mean FF3 had a job system that involved outfits, and no one calls it sexist. Yuna being a popstar was pushing it a bit, but I have to say that like Exire, it's sort of a double edged sword. I have to say that I always find the whole thing in general suprising
