I just started watching these a week ago and they are both completely different stories. These 2 animes are abaout horror murder tension etc etc. They are so goddddddd And I love them. You will freak out if you have not seen these. So my question is who has seen these? It gets more and more interesting each episode.

Oh my god...my brother showed me this and it actually creeped me out!
There's four series I think? Each ending up in different ways of how the people are
killed
. At the end all four different stories are actually connected.

This is my favourite anime. Seriously amazing stuff. Just you wait until the twins start to turn a bit more...twisted.
That's assuming you haven't seen it already.

Favourite anime ever. :3 If you want to get technical though, Umineko isn't really a sequel to Higurashi. I think in the US though that they're calling Uminko When They Cry 2. XD

I'm guessing by now you've finished at least Higurashi and Higurashi kai? If so then it should all make sense. And if that's the case, then I fully recommend rewatching the series I just did so not too long ago and it made the whole experience all that much better, you end up already attached to the characters so instead of a suspenseful ordeal you're stuck in their emotional roller coaster. :D

I started watching Uminkeo but its so hard to find a good streaming site that I sorta gave up temporarily on it.

Yes, yes indeed, Higurashi and Umineko are just epic and definitely are among the best anime ever made. They both start off nice, but... yeah. They're not nice. I thought Rena would be a nice character, but then...

...oh god.

I haven't watched all of them, but I'm watching them now.

BTW Higurashi and Umineko have the most awesome OP songs evar.

While I've only seen Higurashi, I have downloaded every song I can find from Umineko. La Divina Tragedia ftw.

I will also state right now and without embarrassment that marathoning Higurashi and watching it primarily late at night has taught me to fear the shrill laughter of Japanese schoolgirls. Thankfully, a lot of what I eat is not easy to conceal sewing needles in.

I lied I'm watching Umineko as I type this. I found a great site to download it from and so far I'm hooked. I'm thinking about buying the dvd's so that I can see all the uncensored gore. lol.

So far in comparison of story, Higurashi is a lot better, Umineko has its own creepy story, but Higurashi was presented in a more appealing way. Something that Umineko could have used is pacing. Things just feel rushed in this show. :(

As for the OPs, they're awesome. Pretty much all of them are good except the one for Rei. I didn't really like that one. =/ But the OP for Umineko is just tons of epic. Ending themes are pretty bland, but that's not really a big deal to me.

BTW does anyone know whether a subbed uncensored dvd has been released? I know there are subbed dvds, but idk if its just the same stuff I'm watching right now. =/
And does anyone know if there's going to be a second season?

I do know about the series, and while I haven't actually watched the entire series from start to end, I happened to chance upon the killing scenes when my friends introduced the anime to me. :D I literally went WTF when I saw it. Didn't think there would be an anime with such gore.

Especially for characters that seemed design in a style somewhat similar to Azumanga Daioh. Nevertheless, I went on to find out about the stories through Wikipedia, and the manga versions. >.> Apparently, it's a game that has different possible outcomes. These outcomes features different characters as the main reasons for the mystery in the village.

Though, if I'm not wrong, the killings remains ever present in all versions. I suppose it's a sort of trademark... Inspiration from Elfen Lied too maybe?

The only similarity between those two casts is the school setting. The design and style of each could not be more different unless Eiichiro Oda drew one of them.

The similarity of over-the-top gore exists, but I wouldn't call either one an inspiration of the other. The two series are otherwise vastly different. Were I to follow that line of reasoning; I could probably argue that each is inspired in some part by Hellsing, no?

I think you may have misread that or gotten your facts wrong. I personally have not played the games but I know that the anime follows the main arcs in the game. That being the case the outcomes don't place blame on a singular character, rather it shows that the character was
a victim of the Hinamizawa Syndrome
. Upon watching the series further you do however learn who is responsible for the tragedy in the village. And exactly what
the Hinamizawa Syndrome
is.
