I was in the Henne mines earlier today. After leveling up in Pithead Junction C until my highest was level 84, I find Zodiark. Everyone has on Demon Shields, which means that they SHOULD absorb Dark, right? And Zodiark's Dark-ja is the Dark element, right? The answers are yes, but when he used it, he'd kill 2 characters and close to kill the last one! And he'd blind all three! I finally got him down to about 1/6 of his health. He'd rapidly alternate between Magic Barrier and Palings, before killing me. Help me, please!

The trouble with Darkja is that it, like all of the other Esper's -ja spells, has a high chance of inflicting a negative status effect as well. Unfortunately, that status effect is Death. So, even if Darkja does no damage, there is a good chance your entire party will die anyways.
I guess preventing both Dark attacks and Death status is absolutely critical. As far as the difference between Paling and Magick Shield, just keep an eye out and switch between attacks and high-level spells.
Other than that, you'll probably need some luck on your side. Good thing beating Zodiark is worth it. =\

Ahh Zodiaks defences are truely some of the best when he drops down to that last section of hp.
Dude I have two peices of advice for you, one buffs are your best friend in this fight since they allow your characters to survive a couple more hits if they fall between the death effect of darkaja and two keep attacking, healing, and switching your fallening party members.
Do this and you should do alright. Good luck you poor fool.

Okay I did get this guy and his Final Eclipse is worth it for me BUT he's a pain. The thing with his attack Darkja is that no matter if you're wearing items that can absorb dark it can do 9999 damage still. Not really so much as a death but the damage limit which can be displayed.
I have come to see that his Darkja attack's damage is randomized, whether you live to see him for a few more minutes or you die and see a Game Over.
When he drops down to the bit of HP that's when things start out to get ugly, he constantly swtiches from his Immune forms and put up Reflect making it horrible for one to try to use Elemental damage on him, but there is a pattern as I recalled it I had two of my character dispell him and one of them cast a non elemntal. And that involved watching out for what he was doing. It was horrible.

Wear Black masks, you can equip any weapon with the and you'll absorb his darkja/ga attacks. Darkja has a 50% chance of instantly killing your characters - which you can half by casting Shell. (this works with Yiazmat's Death Strike too.)
When he repeatedly alternates between Magick Barrier and Paling, you'll have to changeyour strategy. WHen he brings up the magical one, keep using Scathe Motes or the Scathe Spell. Fortunately Scathe delays his attack, meaning you have time to counter his next attack.
