Help with decision......

i played FF8 years ago and have prtty much forgotten the majority of it (i remember it was great though)

I never bothered with FF9 because i was put off buy the cartooniness of it and didnt like the main character. (it basically didnt appeal to me at time)

I was gonna go out and buy ff8 and play that again cos i know i will get back into that despite it being like 10 years old. but then remembered i never played 9 was not sure if ill get into it, so now im stuck on the decision.

Which one should i get?
Which one has best soryline?

I think FF9 has the best storyline out of FF8 and FF9, though that is not to say that FF8 is weak in comparison and people will have different opinions on that matter.

I think on the whole FF9 was just the better game for me. There were a lot of quirky characters with fantastic designs. It was based in such a well-thought-out, rich and cultured world which beats most from any FF game.

The game was made in the cartoony nature you speak of only to allow these elements to thrive and be expressed in the best way possible, without looking totally out of place. I think the style of the game suited it very well, and it didn't put me off much after playing it for a short while.

I honestly think, even among those that hold strong opinions on how graphics should be implemented, that the story, characters and music (among the best in the series) will overpower their distaste for the graphical style and allow them to have a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

Besides the character models, in being done this way, were a lot cleaner than the FF8 blurry models... And some of the scenery in FF9 were fantastically drawn and provide us with some of the best from the 3 games that drew scenery in this style.

Even if you get FF8 again now (which you may, and it is also good for similar reasons, though personally lower down in my ranking), I think you should definately get FF9 and try it out at one point. You may seriously regret it if you don't ever try it, unless you absolutely despise fantasy settings and prefer sci-fi instead.


So my recommendation would be FF9.

FF8 is really complex and most people who play it at first tend not to like it so much....Maybe FF9 would be a better choice for you because Im assuming you havent played it before and new suprises are much more fun to get than deja vu experiences with the same game. FF8 is very time consuming, i know that for a fact, but I havent played FF9 yet because I havent got a copy. Im with you on the whole cartoony thing, but at least it's a new experience and maybe it'll have a more memorable storyline for you than FF8...

Cheers guys, yea i reckon ill go with FF9, just needed second opinion.
i never really heard much hype bout FF9 so wasnt sure wether or not it were a failure.

As u say id regret not at least trying it and besides i love FF so im sure id get into it neway.

Might be /late, but eh.

FF9 >>>>>>>>>>>> FF8, in this man's opinion. The game is much more enjoyable and fun than 8. 8 tends to take itself a little too seriously. 9 has a good blend of light-hearted moments mixed in with the heavy stuff. Plus you have yet to play it, and if you're a fan of the series you should play all of them at some point, really.

Yeah, I might be late too but I'm still saying one for Final Fantasy 8! As much I love 9, I love FF8 that tiny bit more. Yes, the story may be a little serious, but it does have its many moments of comic relief, too. I thproughly enjoyed it and will everytime, it just never gets old for me.
