Had to recently start FFVIII over(dumb ass brother "accidently" erased my 1st save).

I'm at the end of Disk 1 fighting the sorceress for the 1st time and i need any suggestions on magic/summon junctions/attacks to beat her.

any help will gain rep(maybe:D)

Well first things first you can draw a cure spell off of her which will make the battle much easier. You will be able to defeat her with GF's or if your stats are good enough your own weapons. You can try to use an aura if you have one but that's over kill. When she starts using magic you can cast carbuncle and she will then start casting a harmless dispel spell.

First thing to do, cast Carbuncle. All of her magic will bounce back at her other than dispel. Luckily that affects only one person so once you summon him, you will get three rounds to do things before she goes offensive again. Normally. She uses all three -aga level spells so equip those to your elemental defenses.

Honestly the fight isn't that hard. If you have mug be careful until you steal the crown from her (don't remember if its hypno or royal; i think its a hypno). If you need the spells draw from her. She has Double, Cura, Life and Dispel. All good and they junction well. She isn't really hard as long as you keep up the carbuncle defense.

You don't need to bother with GFs as they typically take too long. just kill her with physicals and make sure you have good magic junctioned to strength. Water and Demi work well.

I generally don't have much trouble with Edea on Disc 1. I train my characters up to level 25 (Squall, obviously, is much higher), so it only takes a couple of rounds to beat her. Also only takes two hits from Ifrit to beat Seifer into submission that way. Mwahaha.

But if you do have trouble, just use whatever attacks you think are best and boost yourself with Cure and Double (and Life, if necessary). Squall is generally the strongest party member so ensure he is always attacking, and have either Irvine or Rinoa on healing duty if you need it. The other can also be on assault, but can switch to healing if you need to. Since Edea already has healing magic available to draw, you needn't worry about using your own stock.

I beat her off a few weeks ago.....Don't bother with GF's or casting black magic, I'd say keep Squall at critical so you can peform his limit breaks. First of all cast protect and shell on all party members, except Squall. Soon Squall HP should bcome critical, then cast protect and shell on him and keep healing him(but make sure his HP stays critcal so you can peform his limit break). Also I think this is the first time you come across Cura and Life so use one character to keep drawing them out of her, and the other to heal, unless of course your in trouble.

Some good suggestions here.

Like others said cast Carbuncle.
Before the battle create some of Irvines AP ammo using Ifrits ammo refine if you have it. Refine sharp spikes (Grand Mantis cards) or Chef Knifes (Tonberry/Tonberry King cards) to get AP ammo.

When your characters HP gets down unleash their limit breaks especially Irvine and Squall's. She should go down in a few turns.

Also try and junction some good magic if possible i.e. Curega to HP, "ga" spells or even water to strength.

A bit off topic but it's quite interesting; you can get tornardo, holy, flare, pain, meltdown and other good spells on disk 1 if your patient. here's how: http://ffviii.com/tips.html
