Hi. I couldn't really find any other place to ask this...and I hope I posted in the right section. But here goes

I've noticed that many of the games have several releases...and I'm really not sure which one to buy, because I'm afraid one will be lacking than the other...

For example...FF 1 & 2, is it better on the PS as "final fantasy origins" or on the gba as "Final Fantasy I & II: Dawn of Souls"? or are they better to be bought separately on the psp?

and for FF4, there's a PS one, GBA one, and a DS one.

for FF5 and FF6, there are PS and GBA versions.

I think that's it for the multiple versions.
I'm really confused, almost to the point of being frustrated because I want to get these games asap...but I'm afraid I'll get the wrong game and regret it
t.t;;
any help and advice appreciated, thanks :)

They're all pretty much the same game, apparently there's some issue about Celes not actually being chained to the wall when you meet her in the PS version of FF6, and if you're the kind of person that cares about those things then you may need to do some research. However if you're normal it won't.
I'd get FF 1 and 2 on PSP, I doubt that's it significantly more expensive than the other options and is the best quality, FFIV on the DS and FFV and VI for PS, but the FFV and VI anthology has problems playing FFV on a PS2, so if that's how you intend to play it then FFV would probably be better on a GBA.

It would also depend on where you live. In some areas (i.e Europe) anthology is FF4 and FF5 as opposed to FF5 and FF6.

Personally I don't think it matters too much. There aren't many major changes between the versions. The PSP remakes of FF1 and FF2 have a few extra dungeons and cameo boss fights, so if that is something you would love to experience then I suggest you get FF1-2 for the PSP.

As for FF4... It depends whether you prefer the classic 2d look, or if you prefer 3d graphics. The DS version updates FF4 with 3d graphics. I've not played the DS version myself so I don't know how true to the original it is, but I've heard that it is pretty much the same only 3d and probably a few changes to scenery and way the characters move about etc.

If anthology happens to be FF5 and FF6 where you live then it wouldn't be a bad idea to get that on Playstation. It might be simpler than trying to buy both seperately for GBA. The Playstation version keeps a lot of the funny translations for FF6, which were apparantly taken out on the GBA version, so you might want to consider that when making your decision too.

If anthology comes as FF4 and FF5 to you then you could either get the 2d FF4 with FF5, and then FF6 for the Playstation, or get the DS FF4, the GBA FF5, and then the Playstation FF6.

It requires some thought if the trivial things like script change, graphics and extra locations matter to you. Hope you make the right choice for you!

If you're anything like me, you like to play games in their original glory. The gba versions are all very good representations of the originals, so I would recommend getting those. As much as I like the DS version of IV, it just didn't have the same feel as the original did.

I too, am committed to playing the games in their original versions, and later going back through and playing remakes. In order to minimize the pain of this, it is best to start at the beginning with FFI on NES. Once you get past FFII things start to pick up.

For the most part, they're the same game with minor tweaks and/or updated translations, with the exception of FFIV DS, which is a 3D redo of the original. I would probably recommend the GBA or PS version of that one. The original has a pretty lousy translation, and the DS version is cool, but it has a very different feel and I prefer the sprite graphics for this one.

My only other important note regards FFI. As I recall the GBA version (Dawn of Souls) only had the original, hard version. (I think? It's been awhile, someone correct me if I'm wrong.) You may be more hardcore than me, but I personally found playing through the hard version extremely tedious and painful. I know the PS Origins version has the easy version, so you may want to consider that.

Other than that, they're aren't enough differences in versions that I feel you wouldn't be getting the real experience with any of them.

Get whichever one which will be easier for you seems as their all pretty much the same game x

I have played and beat all the versions (besides the PSP remakes of Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy II)

This is what I would do if I was you.

Final Fantasy I + II --- Buy Origins {PSX}(or wait for Origins to hit the PSN)
Final Fantasy IV --- Buy Chronicles {PSX}
Final Fantasy V --- Buy the GBA versions
Final Fantasy VI --- Buy the GBA versions NO LOADING TIMES which is very nasty in this version

Hope this helps

I can't comment on FFIV as I haven't finished it yet, and never played FFV or FFVI.

As for FFI and FFII, it completely depends on whether you want a challenge, the PSP versions of FFI and FFII have added stuff such as dungeons, a reformed storyline and nicer graphics (whilst still keeping them 2D) and will also be much easier to find and purchase for the PSP, however, it's also easier than the original FFI and FFII.

Simply put, if you want added/updated content but an easier game but the PSP remakes.
If you don't mind not having added content but a harder challenge, buy the originals.
