Well the unbelievable happened...well I don't know if it unbelievable but it killed me to wake up this morning and my ps2 was considered dead on the scene. No disk will read and most of the time the thing wont even get as far as the initial loading screen. I am wanting to play Final Fantasy so bad right now...I was about 4 hours into playing FFIX and it happened.

Has this happened to anyone else...or maybe your ps2/console went up at a completely bad time during the game.

Aw I remember splitting up with my ex, and he took the PS2, I went afew onths before I crumbled and bought one, it was Ok at first because I moved back in with my mum for a few months and just used my brothers, but then I moved out and I was browsing around for ages, trying to find a cheap one, days turned into weeks, and a couple months later I was just like, I cant be doing with this :gasp: and went and bought myself a new one.....dark times I tell you -_-

Its normally memory cards that go for me though, not the console its self, Ive lost a few uber files which has made me die a little inside everytime it happens -_-

Never really had it bad, when my first ps2 broke, i bought one off my mate for real cheap so i only went without it for a few days. If i was in the middle of a final fantasy game and it broke i would be gutted. I remember playing FF8 and it froze just before you get into esthar. Just when you get into the lift after the ellone dream. No matter how hard i cleaned the disk, it would always freeze there =(
On the plus side mate, ps2s are uber cheap nowadays, so dont worry 2 much =)

@Bambi I had a similar situation with the ex taking the ps2 but at the time I really didn't care because the games I played were repetitive anyways lol. Now I find some games with an actual story and plot then boom! lol @LagunasDream Yea I know thank god the ps3 came out lol Now I can get a ps2 for cheap. It just sucks because of bills and what have you, you never really get to take to much cash out for yourself. I keep saying I will get through this lol nah it isn't as serious as that like I said though it does suck

Disc read errors can be fixed though. Don't scrap your PS2 yet, unless there are other things happening to it. Most of the time the laser on the system needs to be cleaned or replaced. I'd suggest having it looked at before making the final decision to kill it off.

I remember when my ps2 died back in the day - I had it for a good 2 years, then took it to Rhino Games (local game store) and they repaired it for 15 bucks. It ran better than it ever had after that though.

Really? This definitely gives me some hope lol I wonder how much Gamestop charges...probably an arm and a leg but Id do anything to fix this thing except pay more to have it fix than it would cost buying another one ^_^

I've had my old PS2 broke (the big chunky ones) and got it replaced with the slimline one which did a grand job until I got my PS3...with backwards compatability. :awesome:
Anyways, it never broke when I was playing a Final Fantasy game, I don't think I even had an FF data file on my memory card xlolx...although I doubt I'd have been bothered if I did.:wacky:

My PS1 broke the day after I first got FFVIII. I was so eager to play the game when this happened. It crushed me, as I knew I couldn't get another one for two weeks,as I was in a money slump at the time. I didn't get to play the game for a bit :sad3:
