Has any anyone noticed something?

I think the love story was between Vaan and Penelo and Fan and Balthier. On one of the viera sidequests, a man mentions that he would've never considered falling for a viera if he hadn't seen Balthier and his partner, who is obviously Fran. Then, on another sidequest, a Viera takes an interest in Vaan, then later says that he already has someone who loves him very much. Hmm.. I wonder who that could be? :P

I haven't finished the game but I can see the relationships in the game aren't as important as they are in X, and other FF games. I don't think it's a bad thing though, because I like to play games.

I never really noticed any similarities in FFXII that's in the other FFs (story wise)

Except for the fact how Vaan treats Penelo. Reminds me of Cloud and Tifa. Cloud treats Tifa has a friend early in the game like Vaan treats Penelo.

I like love stories in FF, but they don't make or break the game for me. It was actually refreshing not to have a love story in FFXII. For me, the only love in this game happens between Ashe and Rassler.

I'm not horribly concerned about the lack of a love story, because when I grab a game, my mind is set on enjoying the game, not the cast of characters and the story's plot. I can be interested in that shit later :monster:

There isn't a really romatic story anywhere here, but I did feel that Ashe and Balthier seemed to like each other. Penelo obviousely likes Vaan.
Ashe thinks of her dead husband Rasler, so she cannot start a new relatioship.

Ash is lesbian...OK, that was a joke.

Anyway, maybe the SE guys couldn't find a great love story between the main characters coz the already used them all,or...because it's illegal for a princess to fall in love with a younger guy and bang him.

But my real opinion is..they wanted to prepare us for the new FF game(talking about XIII) coz it seems that there's no love crap in it, just some boring ppl who wants to protect there cites.

I am just sure that Larsa has the hots for Penelo. I mean, he takes her to his palace. She is older then him wich makes it kinda interesting for the young Larsa

If you play Revenant Wings it distinguishes romantic relationships more clearly.

In my opinion Fran and Balthier ftw :D, and even though you guys are repulsing at the thought of Ashe and Basch, think about Fran and Balthier because on viera's longetivity Fran is over 50 years old and Balthier is 22  not that I care, just making a point.

I think that there really is some kind of romantic connection between the lead characters of Vaan and Ashe, but I think that they took a shortcut from having the relationship out in the open like with the other games (Tidus and Yuna, Squall and Rinoa, etc) and instead just left it as more of a subtextual relationship that could be interpreted in whichever way the gamer wished to interpret it.

I felt kind of cheated at that, actually.

Edit: Reading above posts made me think of something too:

Vaan and Ashe seem like an almost obvious pairing once you look at the relationship between Fran and Balthier or Penelo and Larsa...but then there's always Basch to consider. :/

As I said play revenant wings and your opinion is more likely to change.

Vaan and Ashe don't actually strike me as a likely pairing, I think the whole thing is that Ashe is more like a big sister or something along those lines, In my opinion I don't think Ashe would be suitable in any pairing, just because of Rasler.

What about Penelo and Vaan?

I saw a little some thing there. But i guess they were friends or some thing, but i after the end amv clip you see
Vaan and Penelo together with the airship :P
.

EDIT: Also Fran and Belthier. They seemed like a good couple. They kind of remind me of Bonie and Clyde.

On the whole Penelo and Vaan thing
It looks like they love each other on Revenant Wings because Vaan gets jealous when she meets Velis

Also if you see videos on youtube there is one called Bunnie and Clyde  but yeah Balthier and Fran are good as a couple

Yeh you would think that thier would b love between the 2 pain charctors, but i think its like balthier n fran i duno

It was better than that type of known love, he was loved as a loyal, brave servant, protector, with a strong heart, and she was remembered , loved as his purpose . There was romance, but there was no sexual relationship.

His heart belonged to service and to courage, and to her fragile sensibilities . That is a beautiful romance. Server, protector. Knight if you will.

I rather have that, to be someone appreciated for all that you are, to never get personal , just to do your personal best.

To have flaws , but to be able to tuck them away .

At the end of the day a sense of purpose. Better than what I ever see . Fall in love in today's world to be a nobody because someone wants to you to be something that you are not.

With the games main theme based on war, I think the focus is more on what the characters have lost, or more precisely, who they've lost, rathar than who they've met.

Ashe lost Rassler, Vaan and Penelo lost their families. Balthier lost his father (of sorts) Fran is no longer welcome in her home, Basch was branded a traitor and became hated in Dalmasca and was betrayed by his brother.

The common goal, the restoration of Dalmasca and avoiding war.

If Ashe had fallen for anyone during the game, then the link to Rassler and her seeing images of Rassler would've been abit tainted for my liking. Penelo didn't add that much to the story, so it would be useless having her fall in love. Fran is a different species. Vaan's main focus is on becoming a sky pirate, Basch is loyal to the end, and Balthier is just, well, Balthier.

It works better without romance me thinks.

I think the storyline give hints about romance but not enough to say "aww they love each other" it kinda lets you make up your own mind about relationships I think, but this story is about war so in reality there is really no time for love. After the war ends though you can see relationships established more clearly.

I think the story deliberatly only hints the romances, but dont actually make it as obviously shown, to make us think and make us interested. Its a secret romance in a way that you're not 'meant' to find out about but you work it out for yourself

Balthier and Fran FTW

I agree with most of the other posts in saying yes, the story definitely doesn't have the same romantic factors most of the other installments did.

I'm not too sure about this, but most of the other romances occurred between the main player character and other character (<- obviously :_:), and in FFXII, since Vaan is not completely linked to the goings-on, and you can play as anyone being the 'leader', they wouldn't throw in a love scene between Vaan and Ashe/Penelo, because if you were playing with a completely different team, it could be kind of random? I don't know if I worded that right but that's along what i'm thinking xD

I think out of everyone Vaan & Penelo hinted most at a relationship, followed by Balthier and Fran. Of course, these are hints and it could all be good friendship but that's just how I see it. =)
