Got my characters up to a higher level thanks to Dustia/Negalmuur. I heard this commotion about Zodiark and Ultima, so I went for them, seeing as I like challenges. Ugh. Those weren't challenges. THOSE WERE MASSACRES! Grr. With either Zodiark or Ultima, can't remember which, the battle status kept changing. And like someone said before, the Immune to Physical damage Paling was annoying when combined with Reflect. But a quick Dispel took care of that, and it was SCATHE ALL THE WAY! Reflect helped a bunch, and having my characters buffed from the beginning helped tons. I might make a guide to easily beat zodiark. I'm trying every strategy possible to try and defeat him. I'll keep everyone posted.

I didn't get to Zodiark yet, but there's a YouTube vid showing him getting pwnt in 1 minute.

I had no problems with Zodiak, some well timed dispels made him easy for me to deal with. I had trouble with Ultima and her constant switching of fields. ARRGH it was so annoying and I seemed to get the worst combination's and situations in fights with her and end up having to pull out all the stops to blow her away. For me I always find Ultima harder.
Like Flux said, Chaos was boring and tiresome to get to, im not doing that shit ever again.
The most annoying part of this game is getting to bosses, not the actual fight, because you have to run around all the time.

Zodiark.
Getting to her asside, Ultima was easy with White Masks.
Now Zodiark, where to begin. First off, equipping Black Masks did NOT guaruntee that darkja would get absorbed. Holyja ALWAYS was with Ultima, but nope, Zodiark just has to be frustrating. To be honest, I found the trip to Zodiark quite easy, but the actual battle was just.. urgh. The stupid immunity is when it went tits up. Game Overed me like a MILLION times.
Eventually I pwned him, but barely. The time I beat him was the time I decided I didn't want to fight all the Etems on the way there, so I tried running from them. Wow, did that bite me in the ass. At the entrance to the 'arena', I tried my best to heal the fallen, but that just made it worse. In the end I just ran in with a critical Balthier (who I didn't use. I only used the girls since they seemed more effective than the guys...). Balthier was lucky enough to absorb Darkja, so I healed everyone, maxed HP and then properly began the fight. The finishing blow came from Fran, who was diseased, with 1HP. Everyone else dead. Laughable MP. No more Phoenix Downs. No Dark Mask. Zodiark readying Darkja. Controller discarded. Given up. Readying tears of frustrationg. JUST as his immunity to physicals dropped for that short amount of time, she hit, and it was over.
Never. Again.
All the other espers were a breeze, but this? Wow. Even the Hell Wyrm was easy in comparison.

I think the fairly obvious answer to the "hardest Esper to get" is Zodiark...especially for me since it's the only one I could never be bothered to get... 
However, I had issues with several of the other Espers. I remember Adrimmelech being a bitch to fight, because he was flying and he had those stupid constantly spawning enemies around him. There was the one that you couldn't use Magic for (Zeromus?) and the one you couldn't Attack for (Chaos?)...there were plenty of obnoxious battles because of the disabled commands and whatever lame status effects came with their -aja level spells.

I didn't really try to collect all the Espers so I never got a chance to fight some of the stronger Espers. I did however, run into Zalera by accident and at the time he caused me a bit of trouble. So for me Zalera was the most difficult esper for me to obtain.
I had a hard time getting Zeromus,my team wasn't really good and those annoying skeletons never stopped coming. Luckely,Zeromus itself wasn't that strong,so I could obtain that thing easily,or else I'd never be able to obtain him with my crappy party.

Zeromus' Dark Lords stop spawning after a while. He only has around 10-15 of them spawning. Either that or there was somthing wrong with my PS2/disk.

I don't even want to know... My hardest was Zeromus. I did it at level 51. With the lack of magic, he put up a great fight. Second Hardest would be Zalera. Level 23 or something... I hated how it was next to impossible to hurt him. Eventually, I 1000 neddled him to death. (He doesn't even move when yu use 1000 neddles on him!)Ultima was definitely the hardest to get to, but Zodiark put up a hell of a fight. Supposedly, the gods feared him, and kept him as a child. Wonder how hard he would've been as an adult?
Zodiark isn't that hard if you are at a high enough level!
