I bought a PS3 and i've bought FFXII because FFXIII isn't out yet and i need a good FF game to keep me busy til FFXIII is out.

So far it seems ok. The battle system is no where near as good as FF7,8,9. I think FF10 was the start of the fubar battle system. It's ok but you take WAY to many hits and the battle animation is simple and just looks basic rather than having spectacular fights like in FF7,8,9..

But it's original so i'll keep it up. So far, i've been playing for over 1 hour and i've killed that Tomato monster for the bounty.

Just thought i'd let you know what i thought. Reply with anything you want, hopefully something helpful for me !

EDIT:

photo of my PS3 and FF collection.. I used to have more FF's but they sadly got sold because i didn't like em as much as i used to.

Make sure you try and get a fair few pieces or weapon and armour Liscences right at the start, especially armour. i didn't and was taking like 600 damage in this place and then i got some armours lisences and took like 80 damage.

Also if one of your main party has low MP make sure to get thier Quickenings first. say Ashe had 90 MP then you got her 3 quickenings. her MP would triple :)

Just a quick point before you go any further. Check to make sure FFXII is FULLY compatable with the PS3. I think the info is on sonys site. Maybe its just here in the UK but certain cut scenes are not compatable with the PS3.

Battle system no where near as good as 7's for example? Or 8's and 9's? I fail to see that, with 7 especially. You taking too many hits? Level up, and taking multiple hits won't be a problem. You do multiple hits too, wait until you start getting weapons that have 2H.

also if you want to train a mage get the black and white basic magic licenses and equip either a staff or rod and get all the magic you can but whatever you do dont challenge t-rexaur regardless of level wait til you have
belias
i would say

I took on the wild saurian at level 23ish, and beat it.

i never got to that level early enough even with hunts and everything so you must have done some good training and had plenty of items

im more excited for you because you got a ps3...im trying to convince my girlfriend to buy it for me for my birthday but its not workin out too well...oh well ill just wait till FFXIII comes out and i actually have money for it.

I liked the battle system okay. Even though I loved FFXII the system wasn't one of it's strong points (IMHO).

I do find it better than 8 & 9's battle systems though (but, to be fair, every battle system beats VIII's xDD) I liked VII's & X's.

As for actually battling, it wasn't supposed to have the same feel as previous FF's. Most of the time I'd get weird deja vu feelings and think I was playing EverQuest or something when I was fighting and running around looking for things to fight. But I didn't see anything wrong with that. MMORPG's aren't my thing, but I always thought the style to battle was cool, and was surprised that I liked the way they imitated it in XII.

thanks for all the replies. So far i'm finding it a good game. I don't think the music is quite as good as 7,8,9 (which i consider the best FF games) but the gameplay is nice, graphics are great and it's proving to be better than i thought. It's ok not having the turn-based battles but it doesn't feel like an FF game without them.

Few quick things to mention:

Outside 'Dalans House' there was a treasure box and i read (after i'd got it), that getting this means you wont get the strongest weapon in the game. Is that true?? I hope not, cos i've saved it now!

And i'm up to the bit where you get the sunstone in Giza Plains and it's took me 3 hours 30 mins. That sound about right?

this might seem sad......but i've added a pic of my PS3 and FF games in the first post :D

I'm afraid so but you could easily start again. The only reason it took so long is with the cutscenes and FMV's but you can skip them in FFXII if you want to hurry and get back to where you were. If you really want it I would suggest restarting while you are this early in the game. I never found out till I was a good few hours and destination ahead so it was kind of late for me but I would restart if I where you.

Since you are going for the Zodiac Spear, make sure you know what chests to open and what chests not to open. If there is mulitple chests in one area and one prevents you from getting the Zodiac Spear then it would be best to ignore them all to be sure.

thanks :) I'll make sure i get that weapon now, especially seems i just threw away nearly 4 hours of gameplay for it !

least i can now get the weapon, i find it a bit silly that you can't get the best weapon because you opened a chest, but stil..
