go into a random battle, kill two people, have the third fight ruby like always, BUT!
this is that tricky part!

yes, walk away from your playstation and let ruby rip that one char to shreds!
how does this work? lets say you use cloud, yuffie, and tifa.
cloud gets hit, cloud counter attacks, eight times.....
cloud gets hit, dies, cast pheonix...
yuffie gets hit, counter attacks, eight times....
you see where this is going?
ruby doesn't counter a counter attack, so he just hits you, and you all but omnislash him in return

or, you can kill ruby in five seconds with cait sith's spin reels >_>'

It fails when Final attack runs out of uses. There are passive Ruby strategies, this isn't one of them. Quadra-Hades W-summoned with a KOTR linked to HP absorb, and a Counter-Mime. All you need to do is attack once. Ruby does the rest.

Yeah thats right, when Final attack runs out, wont your characters just die, I dont think enough Hp will be taken off Ruby to kill it with this technique.

trust me on this, it doesn't sound like it works, but i've never had it fail.
you'll have 15 final attacks to use up, and it'll take 2-4 attacks to kill off one of your people, even with five counter materia you'll get 49995 on him for each attack you survive. and if you farm stat items a bit you can take 10-12 hits from him. and if you really want to tank him set your first person in at 7777 life to start the fight with a good bit of damage.

Easiest way to defeat Ruby WEAPON was the strategy I took into the game. Kill off your 2 weaker characters and let Cloud (he's who I used). This will eliminate the 2 random removal of your cahracters when attacking Ruby early on. Have materia that has Hades + Elemental linked together. This will freeze Ruby WEAPON and he will not attack for almost 3 or 4 turns.

During this time you can hack away at Ruby with KotR or an Omnislash Limit that you had previously saved up. I did this to Ruby and he only got one hit off on my, all his other hits missed, but I did have Cloud leveled up to around 90. Good luck. Enjoy your 5 minute soda break too afterwards.

well i think the killing of the other two party members is a given. although, if you went in with three people standing i can see how my soda break would fail, one char alone can't abuse the counterspam although counter spamming works for most everything >_>

There was a person who beat Ruby in just over 1 minute with Barrett using the Lucky Sevens effect. His materia was mainly composed of Counter+Mime and his Limit Break was set to lvl 3.

Saw it on youtube a long time ago.

I'm a loser, I tried ONCE to beat Ruby, but I don't have any of that materia you guys mentioned... So I just beat the game... -sigh- Oh, well... Guess I'll start over.
